I don’t have roaches. Mosquitoes are rarely an issue and an small price to pay for clean air and all of the other benefits such as no heating bills EVER! 2004 will probably never happen again in your lifetime. It was a crazy year and not typical, as you well know if you lived in FL for 30 years. I wouldn’t let a pesky hurricane chase me to what for me would be a hell hole.
You know the old saying... If you live on the water, you will sooner or later live in it. It’s the price you pay for living in paradise and I’m willing to take it. Secure your things, take your valuables, evacuate, hope it misses and if it doesn’t, that’s why you have wind and flood. If it hits, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start over again. While you are doing it, people all help each other, the sun will be shining, the palms will still be green and swaying in the breeze, the air will be clear, the water will clear up and new beaches will be formed and life will be good.
I’m a die hard Florida lover and no hurricane will ever chase me into hell.

I pray your words ring true for you. And I don’t consider ANY place I’ve lived a ‘hellhole,’ from New England, to the islands to FL to IL .. so you can check outrageous and ridiculous hyperbolic descriptions like that at the door with me.
Hell would’ve been actually losing my life or sustaining lifelong severe injury in a hurricane, which, I discovered afterward, I just narrowly missed in one.
I’ve also learned to never say never... because no one can predict what’s coming next, or state what one would do in any given hypothetical situation ... until it happens.
The treasure is life, by the grace of God .... the mercy and grace of God ...
