The crisis in relations with Iran escalated ominously yesterday after the leaders of the US, Britain and France accused the regime in Tehran of operating a secret uranium enrichment facility buried deep in a mountain bunker near the ancient religious city of Qom. Barack Obama called Iran's activity "a direct challenge" to the international community.
The accusations were made public in an extraordinary joint statement by the US President, flanked by Gordon Brown and the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy before the start of the G20 economic summit in Pittsburgh.
Iran had previously insisted that its plant at Natanz, which is open to international inspection, was the only one involved in enrichment. The new revelation sharply raises the stakes at a time when Israel has been signalling that military strikes against Iran are on the table.
Western sources said the plant at Qom, 120 miles south-west of Tehran, is not yet operational. But it is designed to hold about 3,000 centrifuge machines, which would provide the uranium needed to produce one atomic bomb a year. "Iran has enough uranium to go the whole way," one Western diplomat said. A senior US official said that number of centrifuges could not produce enough uranium to make sense commercially for power generation. "But if you want to use the facility to produce a small amount of weapons-grade uranium, enough for a bomb or two a year, it's the right size."
He stressed that making a bomb was "still some way off" but that the plant gives Iran "more options." French officials said the secret plant was in a "heavily protected" area under the control of the Revolutionary Guards loyal to Ayatollah Khamenei and President Ahmadinejad...

Theso-called Doomsday Clock only seems to respond to American nuclear capabilities. As we get stronger the clock advances. There seems to be no concern at all with enemy nukes and intentions. It is an anti-American device.

They were talking about all the equipment in Iraq and how much money and time it was going to take to move some of it to Afghanistan. Some will just be left in Iraq.

IF an EMP is as effective as advertised then properly placed EMPS above the US would end the nation. There would be no transportation, no way to feed the cities. Famine would eliminate a huge percentage of the population in a few months. The cities would be finished and the urbanites oozing out to the countryside for food would kill off themselves and a large part of the rural population while severely damaging what agricultural capacity remains after power and transportation are gone. The Airborne laser was the device that could preempt EMPs from coastwise ships. Hussein defunded that already.
If Israel does not do the deed it will be because the Americans have informed Israel that our forces will shoot down their planes before they get to Iran. I suspect we have already made a deal for Iran to refrain from mining Hormuz if we shoot down the Israelis.
In regard to the Iranian threat: Spiritually, our only Hope is The Lord Jesus Christ.
Politically and militarily, our only hope is Bebe Netanyahu and the Israeli Air Force.
I would say that our President is a non-factor, but he ISN’T! He has actually shown himself to be a HINDRANCE to our self-protection!

I agree...That clock should be moved to 11:59:30 and still moving...I would guess that by Dec ‘09 or Jan ‘10 the missiles will be flying and if Israel is struck first, it will involve a world war, possibly limited to the Middle East area, but millions would die and the USA would be heavily involved....

Actually, after careful thought, there is only one way to deal with Iran without WWIII: Nuclear attack on Qom, Natanz, and Tehran itself. This would leave the nuclear sites heavily radioactive and if not destroyed completely, useless
because no one could get near them for 50-100 years. Taking out Tehran at the same time would destroy most of the governing body and completely demoralize the remaining population; just as Hiroshima and Nagasaki demoralized Japan into surrender. Terrible scenario, true, but only avenue left this late. Our leaders have diddled around and left us no choice.
