Kids don’t have 3 months off in the summer, more like 2 months.

For my family, we spend 1 week at my parents house visiting them (only time we see them all year). We go on a family vacation for a week. My kids either go to Vacation Bible School or help at one (depending on their age).

Then, my kids have a month long drama camp that they attend for 3 hours a day.

We all love summer. There’s no homework. My kids love to read, and they actually have time to read. We have a pool, so we go swimming a lot, and we have lots of bar-b-ques.

One of my daughters is special needs, and she just needs down time to decompress from school. She attends speech therapy more in the summer because that is her biggest issue, and she doesn’t have time to go much during the school year.

I wish the kids had more time in the summer. I wish they had from Memorial Day to Labor Day off. I love being with my kids.

Then those parents who do not want/or cannot spend time with their children or think they need to be in school can enroll them in summer school. The rest of us (like a huge majority) want them to have time off.

Your opinion of how my kids (or anyone else's) should spend their time matters not one bit, which is as it should be.

It isn't Obama's or your business what my kids spend their summers doing. It doesn't matter if they spend it catching frogs, hoeing tomatoes, whitewashing fences, or watching the grass grow.

Mine is the only opinion (along with the wise and inestimable opinion of Mr. Bunny, of course) which matters one whit.

I didn't have them to hand them over to the government or anyone else to raise.

There are important things for children to learn that can not properly be taught in school. Only families can teach those things and to function properly later in life children need to spend time with their families. Schools were never intended to take the place of parents and grand parents and they should never be permitted to do so by having children more hours and days then their own parents! Children learn much even when not in the classroom. Also,children need free time to exercise,enjoy their lives, and spend with their friends, and older children should have time to have a part-time job and/or do some volunteer work as well. Education is important but it is not the only important thing in this life! Sending children to school for long hours and giving them little if any vacation time is realy a form of child abuse. Our country should never resort to that even if every other country in this world does. Those countries who do that are abusing their children. Their children may seem to learn more than our children, but at a cost of their children having a much greater probability of mental illness.

Give the kids time to be kids. More time being brainwashed won’t do them any good.
