Sir Allen Stanford Attacked in Jail
The Telegraph ^ | 26 Sep 2009 | Leonard Doyle

The jailed Texas billionaire Sir Allen Stanford has been hospitalised after a jailhouse brawl with another inmate.

Stanford was badly beaten but his injuries were not said to be life-threatening. The incident occurred at the privately run Joe Corley detention centre north of Houston, Texas.

A US Marshalls spokesman said: "He got into an altercation with another inmate. He's being examined by medical staff and treated for his injuries."

His lawyer Kent Schaffer added: "Mr Stanford is fine. Contrary to reports, he is not in intensive care at the hospital.

"I understand his injuries are not serious enough to keep him in the hospital." Mr Stanford is accused of cheating investors out of $7bn (£4.38bn). He denies all 21 charges against him.

The six foot four inches tall Texan property developer and banker took dual US and Antiguan-Barbudan citizenship and was given a knighthood by the islands. Much of his business empire was based in Antigua, the Caribbean island. It is alleged he paid investors "improbable if not impossible" returns using deposits from his bank in Antigua.

He indulged his natural flamboyance and love of cricket by sponsoring a West Indies Stanford Superstars team which beat England.

But now he is a prisoner. It was the second time in a month that Stanford, 59, has received medical treatment. He was taken to hospital on August 27 with a heart rate of 300 beats a minute just before he was due to appear in court in Houston.

Criminal or victim of our new Putin-style government (a style that didn’t begin with Obama but was indulged in by Bush rail-roading Border Patrol Agents).

When Antigua-Barbuda grants knighthood, it really, really means something.

I saw an interview with this guy, and he was totally unbelievable.

You could cut through his BS in 2 minutes if you were paying attention.

Apparently, a lot of people with money to invest were not.

“you can be a Texan....or a ‘SIR’ but not both in my eyes.”

He has dual US and Antiguan citizenship and as such can be a both a Texan and a knight.

Though, by this time the Antiguan’s really should have moved to strip him of the knighthood...

Most con men rely of the force of their personality to get people to ignore the BS. He just did it on a grander scale...

"There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.” - Theodore Roosevelt

People don’t like TR any more, especially in NY, where he wouldn’t get 10 percent on a ballot. He would scare the people, who wouldn’t know about his otherwise “soothing” liberal ideas.

1. That is Roosevelt’s opinion, not law. In law there is nothing to prevent a natural born American from aquiring a second citizenship as long as he does not explicitly renounce his US citizenship.

2. Even though he aquired citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda, Sir Allen never explicitly renounced his US citizenship, nor committed any act that would clearly and convincingly show that he had renounced it.

See the case “Action SA vs. Marc Rich”* for some case law on the matter.

* Yes, that is Clinton’s Marc Rich.
