I see this the other way. Let the “undecided” mainstream see the money suck that socialism is. Already the wishy washy vote for a pres like it is American Idol crowd is waking up.

“The 26 men have enough other military service to reach the 20-year minimum for retirement pay but would lose it if the Territorial Guard service doesn’t count.”

No, napscoordinator, they were not working for the state. Alaska was not a state until 1958.

That is an interesting point. That would mean that the state could be considered federal and changes EVERYTHING!!!

Well I have gotten some interesting information from other FRiends on here about the fact that Alaska was not even a state when these guys were working for Alaska. I would think that changes everything and these guys could get their pensions. I am glad to be back to Obama is a jerk again. lol.

Did YOU read the article? "The Army decided this year to no longer count service in the Guard in calculating the military's 20-year minimum for retirement pay" [emphasis added] The rules were changed THIS YEAR, another promise broken after the years of service put in. Territorial Guard service took place BEFORE ALASKA BECAME A STATE. Sounds like Federal service to me, then, considering Alaska's status at the time. Re-read Murkowski's statement: "Sixty-two years after the Territorial Guard was disbanded, the Obama administration minimizes the contribution of this gallant unit to America's success in World War II by calling its service 'state service.' "

The State of Alaska is making up the difference and likely will step in.

Okay So let’s look at the following:
“he Army decided this year to no longer count service in the Guard in calculating the military’s 20-year minimum for retirement pay, although it still counts for military benefits. As a result, their pensions were decreased in January.”

Alaska was not a state until what? 1959? Wouldn’t they have worked for the Fed?

their unit was formed in 1942 to protect Alaska, then a territory, from attack. The 26 men have enough other military service to reach the 20-year minimum for retirement pay but would lose it if the Territorial Guard service doesn’t count.

They getting a post de facto, if you will, determination on their benefits.

These men served our country in a time of war and as far as I am concerned they are part of “The Greatest Generation”

You think it okay to deny them a benefit they have been receiving, due to a rule change some 70+ years later?

AYE! I agree! They saved our bacon once! True heroes, it is unforgiveable that they were denied! Maybe we need to send this news to Glenn Beck! Let him raise a stink about it!

“They must be white people.”

Article said Native people:

“The legislation honors 26 elderly Native people who are the few remaining survivors of a military unit that served the country with valor, Murkowski said.”

This should be sent to all Native American Tribes from NY to Calif.

“Two problems;
1. Regardless of how bad congress’ ratings are people will vote the same scum back in and...
2. Where will we find a presidential candidate with the courage to reverse Omaba legislation accomplished during his short reign of terror?”

1. Maybe, but loads of folks have had a wake up call. Bet local papers/blogs that offer citizen input may have a lot of comments about the incumbents record.
2. Sarah Palin. Really, I couldn’t think of another one who would stick with the constitution, be able to clearly communicate the issues, AND have the backbone to follow through.
