Los Angeles police and sheriff's deputies are scheduled to begin a massive search of the rugged Malibu hills between the 101 Freeway and the coast for 24-year old Mitrice Richardson, who has been missing for nine days.
Richardson, of South Los Angeles, was arrested by sheriffs deputies on charges of failing to pay an $89.21 bill at Geoffreys Malibu restaurant on the evening of Sept. 16 and for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana in her car. She was taken to the Sheriffs Departments Malibu/Lost Hills substation in Calabasas and released at 1:25 the next morning without her car, which had been impounded.
With the exception of what authorities believe was one sighting later that morning, she has not been heard from since.
Weve been searching almost every day, said Steve Whitmore, Sheriffs Department spokesman. We did a big search last Saturday. This one will be bigger.
Whitmore said authorities expect 135 trained volunteers and rescue personnel to cover an area from the Malibu/Lost Hills substation to the coast. They will be on foot, on horseback and in helicopters.
.... Richardsons family members and friends said they asked to participate in the search but authorities told them that the terrain was too difficult. So they have decided to do their own search along the flatter stretches of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

Should the sheriff's department be blamed for releasing her from custody since she herself reportedly insisted on leaving in the early morning?
Attorney Leo Terrell, friend of OJ, has been talking up this case and trying to nail law enforcement. I don't think it's that simple. Mitrice seems to come from a broken home/dysfunctional family, for one thing, and I believe that is a factor.
Pinging the local yokels.
As opposed to what -- taking her out back and beating her?
Geoffrey’s is a lousy restaurant, as are most in Malibu, but theft is theft.
Unless someone had been contacted to pick her up, the Sheriff's Department behavior seems almost criminal to me. I know exactly where she was released and it's miles from the PCH, almost directly on the 101 Freeway. Chances are she tried to hitch a ride and ended up in a very bad situation. I hope by some miracle she's still alive.
The Geoffrey’s manager says she was behaving as though mentally disturbed, yet the sheriff’s department didn’t see any reason to take her to hospital on a 5150... and, it’s not clear they charged her with anything!! Just a strange story.... I hope, by a miracle, she is found alive.

Nothing surprising there, he's made a career of it. Leo is not only a racist but a nutcase to boot.
Exactly. Wash the dishes, sweep the floor, make some other arrangement or write it off. She may have ended up in trouble anyway. She made some phone calls, no one knows to whom.
Leo is horrible. I can’t stand him, so full of himself and his histrionics. And he never met a fact he didn’t like.
Thanks for good thoughts about the girl, only 24 and her life in front of her, reportedly an outstanding student and a sweet person.

Her mother claims to have offered to pick her up, but this was after she had already left the station.
Would the author call the police if someone stole $89 from her?
Try again.
Should the restaurant have called the police on someone unwilling to pay their bill?
People can and do make mistakes. A misplaced purse. A $10 bill instead of a $20 in the pocket. It happens and merchants are willing to wait while someone is called.
How is this the fault of the police?
The bimbo stole an $89.00 meal from someone, was arrested and demanded to be released, which she then was. She is 21.
Unfortunate that she came from a dysfunctional home and all, but she is a thief.
She’ll probably turn up working in the local sex trade.
Why did they impound her car?
Why did they impound her car?
The Mary Jane they found in her car?
