Rep. Schock: Terror Suspect Wanted to "Wipe Out" Congressional District
ABC News blog "The Note" ^ | September 25, 2009 | David Chalian

Representative Aaron Schock (R-IL) is hoping the foiled home grown terrorist plot in Springfield, IL this week will cause the Obama administration to re-think its plans to close down the terrorist detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The terror plot disrupted by an FBI sting operation on Wednesday in Springfield, IL, had a federal courthouse and the Republican congressman's district office in its sights.

Rep. Schock said that the FBI "outlined that the primary target for this individual was the federal court house building in Springfield but that my office which is located across the street was the secondary target."

"He was planning to wipe out my congressional district according to his words," Schock told us on ABC News' "Top Line."

The congressman also said that the suspect is a prime example of why the detainee population at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba should not be transferred to federal prisons inside the United States.

"This is an individual who, from what the FBI told us, is an American citizen who was radicalized while in prison and came out committed to jihad and committed to committing acts of terror," said Rep. Schock.

"And I think it speaks to not only the ongoing threat to America, but also the concern that many of us in Congress have with the president's attempts to close Guantanamo Bay and more of these prisons, move more of these prisoners and these terrorists back here into our country, back into our local prisons and what effect that may have on the security for our country and their ability to win over and proselytize if you will, while in prison," he added.

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reported today that the Obama administration has conceded it will miss the self-imposed deadline to transfer all the prisoners out of Gitmo and close down the facility by January 22, 2010.

On the domestic political front, Rep. Schock sounded more hopeful for a bipartisan result on health care reform than the current political landscape would suggest possible. The congressman predicted that the Senate Finance Committee will defeat the push for a public option by Senator Schumer and Senator Rockefeller next week.

"Once that happens, I'm hoping we can get the majority to move off the dime, give up the public option and move more to center ground which is what the president's talked about. That 80% that both sides agree on. And I think if we get a bill that focuses on 80% that you're going to see Republicans and Democrats come together."

And you won't want to miss Rep. Schock's take on what it is like being the youngest member of Congress.

We also checked in with ABC News' Karen Travers at the G-20 summit in Pittsburgh, PA for the latest on President Obama's tough stance against Iran this morning and if it will lead to any concrete action.

Karen also made a bold prediction about the president's plans to win the gold for Chicago 2016.

As I "reported here" in the past year, summer before last, we (my hubby and I) were returning home from the wedding of a friend's daughter in a suburb North of Chicago. As we drove along, I spotted a sign that read, "Birthplace of Ronald Reagan," and had to check it out.

Besides traveling to a small town past the one block long "downtown" area, driving back and forth twice, we finally spotted a hand-made sign in a shop window, "Birthplace of Ronald Reagan."

I was terribly saddened to think that the actual place of the birth of one of America's most loved Presidents, has had absolutely no money spent and the citizens, though very proud of sharing his heritage with everyone, needed to paint tiny signs to go into shop windows, pointing upstairs to the tiny room where the Reagans lived!

Nancy, part with some of your millions and have a commercial sign painted at the very least!

Upon attempting to get back to the Interstate, we took the wrong road, realized it shortly and turned around in what appeared to be a modest concrete building in the middle of corn fields.

Looking up from my map, I saw something that truly shocked and I'll admit even frightened me. The small sign over the building read, "Islamic Studies Center."

Why was I so shocked and frightened, we were almost exactly next to the U.S. electrical grid that runs both East and West as well as North and South!!!!

Nothing in that area would give the slightest hint that there were any Muslim communities - only a couple of tiny towns and farmers.

The cockroaches are very busy this month, what with the end of Ramadan and all.

TG our FBI is on its toes. Plots broken up in NYC, Springfield, Denver.

Wonder why the Islamonuts feel so emboldened right now?

Could it be because of our weakling President?

It is very shocking. They have these “Islamic Studies Centers” everywhere in rural America. Upstate New York and Northern PA. are full of them.

When the call goes out—they will be ready.

Will we?

“He was planning to wipe out my congressional district according to his words,”

This is almost the same plan the John Kerry group Viet-Nam Veterans Against the War had back in the day. They planned and trained to kill 20 US Senators who supported the war and they wanted to blow up several government buildings.

In fact two were arreasted with several bombs in their car heading to an Agnew speech planning to kill the VP.

One problem I see with all these terror suspects being rounded up lately, is that it will give 0bama an excuse acceptable to all liberals, to keep Gitmo open... since he will be able to say he has had so much success in fighting “terror” or whatever they are calling it these days.

The town of Reagan's birth is Tampico, IL, a very tiny town with a population probably less than 1,000 (maybe even less than 500.)

We were leaving Tampico, IL after seeing his pitiful birthplace, on the way to the highway to Peoria when we took a wrong road (unfortunately I don't know what that "wrong road," or in this case the "right road" as, when we turned around in the "Islamic Center."

You also know the approx. spot where the U.S. power grid crosses the U.S. --- and--- THE ISLAMIC "CULTURAL" CENTER that you might, just might wish weren't so close, someday!

I have the feeling (hope) that the FBI or DSI or one of those agencies has infiltrated the Center and has kept a very close eye on them, and others strategically located around the US.

That is my prayer as well. That and the hope that those few families are keeping their eyes on those in their midst.

As I could not determine just how much of the surrounding property actually belongs to this "group," I know that Saudi Arabia has invested countless millions in purchasing properties throughout America, including farmland, especially property in remote areas for "training" of young Muslims in extending their "reach" into our society as well as their abilty to blend into areas without notice of the general public.

Certainly a search of County records will help identify the persons who purchased properties.

Any Freeper in IL willing do to the research????
