On November 4th 2008, we held a mock presidential election in my third grade classroom. Students spoke their minds about the candidates, and I facilitated making sure all sides were heard. Secret ballots were cast, and Barack Obama won getting 18 out of 20 votes. John McCain and Cynthia McKinney split the remainder. Later that night of course history was made. Naturally, these kids are not expressing their true opinions, since they're too young to have a truly informed one. It's obvious they're being heavily infulenced by the adults around them. Honestly, though....I think I'm more worried about the future of the child that voted for McKinney.

Back when Bush was running against Gore ... the kindergarten class at my oldest daughter's youngest childs' class voted.
Brett was the only one in the class to vote for Bush and since my daughter was present and knew the teacher was a conservative as well as she was, the teacher asked him why he had voted for Bush.
His response? Because Bush does not believe in killing babies before they are born and Gore does.
He converted (for that day anyway) a bunch of his classmates.
Not one parent complained about his statement, either.
