BOLLING RECEIVES ENDORSEMENT OF FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE

-Law enforcement coalition cites Bolling's dedication to protecting the citizens of Virginia-

RICHMOND - Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling has received the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police. Bolling received the endorsement at a press conference earlier today at the State Capitol with FOP President P. Thomas Edwards, Bob McDonnell, Ken Cuccinelli and members of the law enforcement community

"I am very pleased that the Fraternal Order of Police has chosen to endorse my re-election as Virginia's Lieutenant Governor. Throughout my career in public service I have consistently stood in support of Virginia's law enforcement community, and it is an honor to have them standing with me," said Bolling. "There is no governmental responsibility more important than keeping the people of Virginia safe from the threat of crime, and I will continue that effort by working to put more law enforcement officers on our streets, cracking down on violent gangs, Internet sexual predators and domestic violence. I look forward to working with the FOP and other law enforcement organizations on these and other public safety issues over the next four years."

In a letter informing Bolling of the endorsement, Edwards cited Bolling's dedication to protecting the citizens of Virginia by making public safety a clear priority as a deciding factor in the group's decision.

Bolling has a long record of supporting police officers and our law enforcement community. As a State Senator Bolling supported efforts to increase the number of state funded local law enforcement positions. He also supported increasing retirement benefits for law enforcement officers. Bolling received the Legislator of the Year award from the Virginia Sheriff's Association in 2000.

As Lieutenant Governor Bolling helped secure the first state funding for Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces that crack down on internet sexual predators. He also sponsored legislation to enhance penalties for violent sexual predators, including a mandatory minimum assistance of 25 years for the commission of certain sex crimes against minors.

Bolling was also endorsed by the FOP in his successful campaign for Lieutenant Governor in 2005.
