Fraternal Order of Police Endorses Bob McDonnell for Governor Roughly 8000 members; 50 lodges across Virginia

RICHMOND- Bob McDonnell, Republican gubernatorial nominee and former Attorney General of Virginia, was endorsed today by the Fraternal Order of Police in his campaign for governor. The announcement was made during a press conference in Richmond this morning. The FOP is the voice of our nation’s law enforcement officers. Virginia’s FOP lodges reviewed questionnaire responses submitted by Bob McDonnell and Creigh Deeds prior to members of the Virginia FOP voting on who they believe the organization should endorse.

Speaking about the endorsement McDonnell remarked, “I have dedicated my life to public service as a U.S. Army Officer, a prosecutor, Chairman of the House Courts of Justice Committee, and as Virginia’s Attorney General. I have been a consistent and strong advocate for law enforcement and victims’ rights. As Governor, I will continue to be a leader in the fight to keep our communities safe. I will work closely with our local public safety leaders to ensure that they have the resources they need to protect our citizens. Additionally, I will continue to propose new policies to enhance and improve our criminal justice system. During my career I have worked closely with Virginia law enforcement on many critical issues. I truly appreciate the difficult and important job done every day, in every city and county, by our public safety professionals. These men and women have dedicated their lives to keeping Virginians safe and I will be a governor dedicated to standing up for them. I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police.”

Over the past month McDonnell has been endorsed by: Virginia Realtors ®, the largest trade association in Virginia with over 33,000 members; Virginia AgPAC, the political action committee of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation with over 147,000 members statewide; the Virginia Credit Union League, a trade association representing the Commonwealth’s 194 not-for-profit credit unions and the 3 million member-owners residing in Virginia; and, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the leading small business association in the Commonwealth whose membership consists of nearly 6,000 small businesses across the state. Just yesterday McDonnell was endorsed by the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce NOVABizPAC, the voice of business in Northern Virginia. Last week McDonnell was endorsed by the National Rifle Association, widely recognized as America’s foremost defender of Second Amendment rights, with over 120,000 members in Virginia.
