When the investigation purports to be about "origins of species" but excludes the first species, the common ancestor - then it should say so otherwise people will "fill in the blanks" for themselves. "Sorry, I'm not buying the idea that arguments based on misperceptions are valid. Saying that Darwin should have explicilty said so just rationalizes hanging on to the misperceptions.
