Absolutely a crooked underhanded deal!!

First, the Navy should never have given it up as their strategic reserve!!!

I think it is “The Teapot Dome Scandal” part 2

“In 1921, by executive order of President Harding, control of Naval oil reserves at Teapot Dome in Wyoming and at Elk Hills, California, was transferred from the Navy Department to the Department of the Interior. The oil reserves had been set aside for the Navy by President Taft. In 1922, Albert B. Fall, U.S. Secretary of the Interior, leased, without competitive bidding, the Teapot Dome fields to Harry F. Sinclair, an oil operator, and the field at Elk Hills, California, to Edward L. Doheny. These transactions became (1922–23) the subject of a Senate investigation conducted by Sen. Thomas J. Walsh”

I see that they have identified a new brown field for one of those boards to clean up.

May I make a request to this administration? Please drill off the eastern coast of FL. Specifically between PBC and Ft. Lauderdale. Please. That way most of the crude coming up through the ocean floor might be siphoned off, so I and the family won't have to take it home with us on our person...

Obviously this propaganda was funded by Big Oil. We need to get off our addiction and ride bicycles made from hemp fiber. If they pierce Gaia to extract her oil, it will damage the ecological systems in the area for 10,000 years and contribute to the destruction of the planet. Indigenous species in the area will go extinct, and it won't make any difference in the supply of oil, anyway.

Well, I think I hit all the liberal arguments. :)

I believe I also read that Occidental wasn’t even the highest bidder. It was such a benefit to Gore, tho, how could they NOT award the deal to them.

I wasn’t politically aware at that time in my life, but I did watch the news and I don’t remember hearing any of the anti-capitalists excoriating Gore over making such a big profit.

lol In that area it’s kangaroo rats.

We had a severe mouse problem at the warehouse so one of the guys put out sticky traps. One of them ended up with 3 baby kangaroo rats stuck in it. The supervisor made him immediately bury them before the resident eco-nut found out because the fine is $10,000/rat (supervisor’s words). You could prolly add $5000 per since they were babies.

well, if the political winds ever stop blowing the wrong way, this could be a great deal for Bakersfield. In the past few years, oil was winding down there, and the thought was that it was an old area that was almost played out. Sounds like Bakersfield might get a new lease on life, if given a chance.

By the way, I drove through the area northeast of Bakersfield a few years ago on a little state highway. For some miles it is an otherworldly expanse of low hills with dry grass, and above ground pipes everywhere. Very desolate and somewhat post-apocalyptic. Somebody ought to write a lonesome song or story about it. It is very evocative.

California is moving to a soy-based economy so they don’t need that oil.

Don’t know that it is related, but Hannity showed Feinstein explaining her no vote to turn the water back on in the San Joaquin Valley. She said it would be like ‘Pearl Harbor’. It’s a clue, I think, but to what?

I wouldn’t know, as I am a Conservative and pay little attention to Liberal philosophy.
