Of course he was fired. Unlike the White House and Congress you can't have a felony conviction and work for the post office ~ it's far too important than to allow that sort of thing.
BTW, I knew a guy fired for a false claim on a travel voucher ~ barely more than $1.00 ($1.15 I believe). They really come down hard on folks at USPS.
