Judge expels woman for wearing burka

A SPANISH judge has expelled a Muslim woman wearing a burka from his court for refusing to show her face when testifying in the trial of a group of Islamic extremists.

"Seeing your face, I can see if you are lying or not, if you are surprised by a question or not," Judge Javier Gomez Bermudez told the woman, the sister of an Islamic radical killed in a suicide bombing in Iraq in 2005.

The woman said that her religion forbade her from appearing in public without her burka...

But after speaking to the judge later in his chambers, a compromise was reached.

She said she had agreed to testify on Monday minus the part of her burka which normally covers the face "between the chin and the eyebrows" and with her back turned to the public and journalists in the courtroom.

regardless of what y’all say about the euros, Spain isn’t going to turn into france anytime soon, and the tolerance for muslims isn’t too high here.

chin and the eyebrows isn’t enough. You need to see the movement of the forehead. She won that argument.

Interesting, and a good rationale presented by the judge. It would not be so here though, where innocence/guilt is determined by jury.

Yeah right — compromise, compromise, compromise.

The woman said that her religion forbade her from appearing in public without her burka...

Her religion also permits her to lie to the kufir to advance the goals of Islam (imperialism).

oh you live there. What was the reason you believe Spain joined us at first in Iraq? I was surprised that Spain joined us i was thinking at the time the legacy of El Cid was still alive there. Was I close?

“...a compromise was reached.”

Too bad.

These semi-civilized savages need to acquiesce to the rules of the country in which they CHOOSE to live.

That said, when those in charge have no spine and no respect for their own country’s culture, the pushy Islamic pigs are not going to be brought to heel.

So the courtroom is now a public space? I thought chambers could be closed...

The woman said that her religion forbade her from appearing in public without her burka...

Lifetime confinement in an insane asylum seems appropriate for this person.

Absurd 7th century practices like this should not be allowed in any country where camels are not the primary mode of transportation.

Wearing Burkas isn’t religious, it’s local muzzie custom.

How many variations of Islam are there? Is it as varied as say Protestantism? I know not all muslims believe women have to wear the burqa. How liberal does that rule get?

umm, i believe that answer, while well meaning, might be a tad too idealistic.

I think it was entirely due to one man: Jose María Asnar, who happened to be the first right wing leader elected since Franco (PSOE really screwed up beforehand). He was by no means a brilliant politician, as was later proved by his managing to lose the election after the Madrid bombings - I think this was NOT due to cheese eating surrender monkey-ism, but instead Asnar’s idiot and inexplicable insistence on blaming ETA when it was pretty clear that ETA was not behind it.

Regionalism still drives politics here in a way that americans wouldn’t have understood in 1858, and some people seem to (for reasons beyond me) hate minority regions simply because they exist.

Courts of law are not subject to religion.

They are subject to the rule of law.
