Charges of economic cluelessness and political hackery are flying in Texas as U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison challenges Gov. Rick Perry for the Republican nomination for governor.
.The primary isn't until March and the big bucks haven't yet been spent on advertising, polling or voter-luring barbecues in this large and heavily Republican state.
But from the get-go the race has been fierce, even by the bare-knuckled standards of Texas politics. For instance, both sides have taken to posting attack videos on YouTube, referring to one-another as "Kay Bailout" and "Tricky Ricky."
Mr. Perry, who appeals to the conservative wing of the party, took office in December 2000 and is already the state's longest-serving governor. Ms. Hutchison, who was elected to the Senate in 1993 with 67% of the vote, is more moderate and considered one of the most popular officials in the state.
That makes for a high-profile battle, one that is often seen as a microcosm of the national debate within the Republican party over its future direction.
"What we're not used to is having a bitter Republican primary between two rock stars," said Harvey Kronberg, editor of the Austin political newsletter the Quorum Report.

As a Texan, I don’t want KBH bringing her DC mentality back home. Perry, although not perfect by any means, has done a fair job running the state. (after the citizens let him know the TTC and forced vaccinations weren’t a good idea)
My biggest fear, a Dim sneaking in to the Gov. office.
I just don’t like women executives. Call me sexist, but they just do not make good conservatives.
Is Palin an exception? Perhaps, but the track record of women in politics is not a good one for conservatives.
Bump!
I’m not a big Rick Perry fan but I’ll vote for him anyday over Kay Bailout...
Sexist.
Just want them barefoot and pregnant.
pig
Ha ha, too funny.
As a conservative woman, I agree with you completely.
Godzilla vs. Mothra. Yawn.
I tend to agree but there are exceptions (Lady Thatcher e.g.) but KBH is not one of them.
On A personal note i remember well an incident in 2000 when i boarded a very crowded Southwest Airlines flight. SWA does not have assigned seating and I prepared to sit in one of two remaining seats but got a withering glare from the woman sitting next to the empty seat ... so i moved on to the next row.
Well of course that seat was filled by the next guy as it was a full flight. And as you’ve probably guessed by now the glowering woman was none other than KBH.
Folks with that exaggerated sense of entitlement and importance never make good leaders IMHO.
I think this campaign is folly and will be the end of KBH’s political career which is fine by me.
Remember that one “tough (and nutty)” grandma carol keeton strayhorn? She disappeared aftera similar quixotic effort on ... But resurfaced to order sonny boy to write a dirty laundry tell all a/b W.
Hell the track record for conservatism is not good for either gender. Look at every Republcan male who has fallen on his unzipped pants! The blame is not the gender. The blame is the corruptive temptation of money, sex, and power which leads both genders to failure.
Just because Kay Bailout is a bigger Rino.
wolfcreek - I think you’ve pretty much summed up my feelings, too.
Texas does NOT want, nor need, a pro-murder, higher taxes RINO is not what I want.
Of course, if Perry would man-up and close the border (heck, ALL of them, not just the one with Mexico) I’d be sending him some money, and some of my time.
Margaret Thatcher
>> I just dont like women executives.
In this case, your instincts are right on the money.
KBH is NOT suitable for an executive position. She isn’t a leader; she’s a back-room dealer and a manipulator.
And she’s a liberal to boot. Boot her we should.
Rick Perry = Trans Texas corridor, massive toll road projects, attempted imminent domain on thousands of acres of farm and ranch land, open borders, sanctuary cities, lethargic leadership on high as hell property taxes.
Enough is enough.
If we keep fishing from the same ol pond, were gonna keep catching the same ol big mouth bass.
If we continue to vote for these professional politicians, we will get what we deserve.
I can’t believe she actually flew Cattle-Car Airways!!!
Figure them odds...;-)
“Margaret Thatcher”
I totally agree with that one. I lived in UK during the Falklands war and she was dynamite.
There just aren’t that many though of that gender, are there?
