The writer said Mr Bush was uneasy about Republican choice John McCain and critical of Sarah Palin as his number two.
'What is she, the governor of Guam?' he joked. But he went on more seriously: 'This woman is being put into a position she is not even remotely prepared for. She hasn't spent one day on the national level.
'Neither has her family.'
Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld apparently had to be talked out of editing his own entry on Wikipedia, the Internet encyclopedia he referred to as 'Wika-wakka.' He also used to watch YouTube clips that made fun of his press conferences, says Mr Latimer.
The president's wife, Laura Bush, 'was secretly a Democrat for all intents and purposes, though it really wasn't that much of a secret,' claims the book.
And her husband lost patience with his own Republican colleagues at times.
When told that a senator from his own party had been caught up in a gay sex scandal, Mr Bush reportedly said: 'What is up with all these Republicans?'
And, although his 2004 election win was fuelled by support from evangelical Christians conservative voters adamantly opposed to gay marriage, Mr Bush is said to have baulked when one of his writers wanted to insert a phrase condemning same-sex weddings into a speech he was giving last spring.
'I'm not going to tell some gay kid in the audience that he can't get married,' he said.

I actually think Bush sounds pretty level headed for most of this, except for his comments about Palin. The idea that “family experience” = “personal experience” is exactly the problem with the entire Bush family.
Bush called it on McCain and Palin.
Smells like BS to me...
Sounds like the writer has a vivid imagination
You can never be sure who said what and with that in mind, GW was a governor before being president and so Sarah would have been before being VP. His family, of course had more exposure, etc. It wasn’t a significant comparison if, as I said, GW actually said that.
I asked the same question about Bush during his last couple of years...
Yeah...those crowds screaming for Palin where a figment of your imagination...
It was McCains to loose...and he did so in fine fashion...
Eight Wasted Years...Margaret Thatcher used to talk about the ratchet effect. When the Left gets power, she said, they drive everything Left; when the Right gets power, they slow the Leftward drive, perhaps even halt it for a spell; but nothing ever gets moved to the Right. U.S. politics in the 21st century so far bears out this dismal analysis. What does the Right have to show for eight years of a Republican presidency? I supported George W. Bush in 2000 because I thought he had a conservative bone in his body somewhere. I supported him in 2004 because I thought him the lesser of two evils. At this point, I wouldnt let the fool park his car in my driveway. Bruce Bartlett was right, every damn word...Bill Gertz interview on Hannity and Colmes Gertz: Well he casts himself as a compassionate conservative and I argue that he's neither. That his administration is neither. He's done tremendous damage to the conservative movement... |
For whatever foibles Bush had, they do not compare to Bobos unconstitutional abuse of power which Congress has allowed to be undertaken.
I do like Rumsfelds term ‘Wika-wakka,’ for Wikipedia.
Yeah, it’s not like she was a community organizer or only served in the Senate for a couple of months, something that would be a total disqualifier for any high office. RIGHT?
He sure was right about Carter.
George Sr. started the crap.
Threads up on this last week.
This has been debunked by Press Sec. Dana Perino and several others who were in the know daily.
he author was a 4th stringer and a minor speech writer briefly
Anything to sell books. Now lets all put our heads together and do a group recall of the national level experience that George Bush had prior to being elected President of the United States. For my input I recall NOTHING that Bush did at the national level and one would think that his speechwriter would realize this and perhaps point it out.
George Sr “took” a crap. The rest is history.
He nailed that one...
If some people din’t like what Bush did, think of what the alternative would have been.
its BS, as the author claimed that bush didn’t know who palin was, a month after he met her in Alaska
Laura Bush is really a democrat? (according to this story)
Is this article for real?
