WASHINGTON Former Miss California Carrie Prejean told a crowd of social conservatives Friday that she was a varsity jock in high school who got into beauty pageants just knowing that she is a strong woman with values.
Her strength has carried her through the junk that followed after she responded during the Miss USA pageant that she believes marriage is between a man and a woman, she said.
There was something wrong with turning on the TV and seeing people mock me for my faith. For seeing people make fun of me for the answer I gave. Making fun of me for being a Christian, said Prejean at the Values Voter Summit Friday. It didnt make sense to me.
Prejean, now 22 years old and a senior at San Diego Christian College, was in the final round of the Miss USA 2009 when openly gay pageant judge Perez Hilton asked her if she believed every U.S. state should legalize same-sex marriage.
She responded that every American can choose what to think on the issue, but in her family they believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. The pageant finalist added, no offense to anybody out there. But thats how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman.
A storm of protest and verbal abuse from the pro-gay marriage camp against Prejean immediately ensued the pageant.
Though Prejean was named first runner up in the Miss USA 2009 pageant, she was later dethroned as Miss California, with producers of the pageant citing alleged breach of contract. She has denied the claims, and has filed a libel suit maintaining she has been discriminated against for her religious views.
I have never seen anything like it, Prejean said, being a 22-year-old college student not really into politics, or I wasnt at the time. But now I have a new outlook. I am disgusted at the way some people can be so intolerant.
She said not only has she been attacked, but her mother has been tabloid fodder while her father and 90-year-old grandmother have also been regularly attacked.
But you know what, I am here today because I am still standing and I am not defeated, said a defiant Prejean, who some call the new family values spokeswoman. They have not defeated me.
The 22-year-old, who got the crowd more excited than established politicians featured earlier Friday morning, shared that she was raised by parents who taught her to fear God and show respect to everyone even if they have different views from her. In high school, she described herself as a jock who played four sports, including varsity basketball.
She started entering pageants her senior year of high school when a friend suggested the idea. Her mother had been hesitant about the idea, but she recalled assuring her mother that it was a competition and I love competition [and] I love to win and that she didnt need to wear a bathing suit.
Her success in pageants brought her to the final round of the Miss USA competition, where on that fateful night she chose to give up her chances of being Miss USA and competing in Miss Universe to stand up for her values.
Im not a hater of anyone. This is not about me being a bigot, a racist, or whatever you want to call me, Prejean said. It is just that I am a woman who stood up for the truth and people dont want to admit that.
She added, "Even though I didnt win the crown that night, I know the Lord has so much of a bigger crown in heaven for me.
Her book about her experience with the Miss USA pageant, entitled Still Standing, is set to be released in November.
Christ's strongest condemnation was for those who took scripture and corrupted it into what they had decided rather than what God said. On top of that they used their revision of scripture to impose their own moral framework on everyone. It is a particular danger that every Christian faces. God created us in his image and we return the favor.
The request is simple. A basic tenant of scripture should be easy to support without abusive language.
I cannot help but but be puzzled, Ron, as to how you can be bothered by "name calling" after what you posted to me.
I simply said in earlier posts that she should not use Christianity to hold one opinion based on Biblical tenants and then be in violation another tenant, ie using her body to tempt men, selling her soul to gain etc....it's fodder for hypocrisy
Did you read what that poster wrote?
I think you're giving him too much credit. I don't think he'd know the Bible from a bag of potato chips. I think he's just here to have some contemptuous fun with the flyover people, while keeping the attack on Carrie Prejean alive to help punish those opposed to gay marriage.
No, you claimed her obtaining breast implants violated a basic tenant of scripture. Explain how. And stop the “look in the bible” garbage, or the “try looking in Acts” silliness. If you know scripture as you claim you should be able to support your claim. Fer cryin’ out loud, I already GAVE you one possible avenue, but you better know I am also able to reference passages and ideas that would refute more than I have already stated. If you are unable to support your statements have the integrity to say so. If you actually want to have a discussion quit acting like a jerk and get on with it.
LOL, "Christian."
I cannot help but but be puzzled, Ron, as to how you can be bothered by "name calling" after what you posted to me.
Now you know, well probably not, fool....show disrespect, get disrespect
I think it is more likely that he became upset over my scripture like (and admittedly edgy) humor and reacted to it as he did to her - he applied his own moral framework and worked up his own "righteous indignation".
I will say it strikes me as a rare thing for someone claiming to ba a Christian getting a post yanked for profanity/abuse. I have been around a while and in all those years I have only had one post yanked. It had no profanity, but it was harsh. I pinged the moderator myself. Hopefully the "target" never did see it.
Go find another poster to troll with, no thanks.
If you don't have that basic Biblical understanding, there is no conversation to be had.
Here’s some quotes for the faithful:
Leviticus 19:28
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord.”
Deuteronomy 14:1
“Ye are the sons of the LORD your God; you shall not cut yourselves,
If the Bible doesn’t like tattoos, it is hard to believe that it is in favor of breast implants!
And from the New Testament:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
Also:
1 Corinthians 3:16
NIV: “Dont you know that you yourselves are Gods temple and that Gods Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys Gods temple, God will destroy him; for Gods temple is sacred, and you are that temple.”
And BTW, are you forgetting Matthew 5:22?
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
How did you get that pic of my ex-wife ??? It is good to see that she has lost some weight though
She had implants. The story goes that they were designed to “equalize” her chances against the other competitors and that they were sponsored/paid for by the Miss California organization.
If you dig deeper, I am sure you will find a more accurate version of this story.
You don't find that a bit disrespectful if not contentious? I do
And as I mentioned I am not perfect, nor am I angry at you but I don't know you, maybe I'm a bit defensive? I dunno.
So; okay true, lol. . .but 'electrifying base'? She is only twenty two; and while articulate; she is not THAT articulate! Which brings one back, perhaps to your observation/lol. Too much beyond that is scary!
Of course; there are many young people who could use some electrifying when it comes to Conservative principles. . .and others as well. . .so, nuff said, perhaps.
Obviously not all Christians are biblical scholars. But I think it's pretty safe to say that when a Christian self-professes to the level of declaring someone's good character "negated" from a specifically Christian point of view, they can back it up with at least some biblical reference, no matter how generalized.
Problem is, many liberals try to attack Christians through infiltration and attempted subversion. Their probem, however, is that they are in denial about the fact that their angry delusions about Christianity are - angry delusions. So when they infiltrate, they try to shame Christians with their own confused morality accusations, as if these will create some sort of meltdown in their targets. And if Christians fight back, they are called hypocrites, so the liberal thinks it's a win-win plan.
From a truly Christian perspective, of course, such efforts are childish. But they are nevertheless the common attitude of liberals, almost universally. So, while I do check for genuine Christian earnestness, as the taunting posts continue without reasonable Christian thinking, I feel pretty confident that a hypocrite has been discovered.
As for harshness, I guess I believe there is a limit to turning the other cheek. After all, Jesus also said to buy a sword... and he flipped the tables on the hypocrites : )
Proverbs 31:30 Favour [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain: [but] a woman [that] feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
