The FBI, meanwhile, is furious with the NYPD for bungled intelligence gathering that tipped off Najibullah that he was under surveillance, sources said.
Federal agents working with the Joint Terrorism Task Force asked their NYPD counterparts to discreetly gather intel on Najibullah.
Rather than slyly contact their list of sources and informants the NYPD canvassed the suspect’s old Flushing neighborhood and flashed around his picture.
Eventually the imam of the Masjid Hazrat Abu Bakr Islamic Center learned of the investigation and contacted the man’s family to let them know that he was subject of a law enforcement inquiry.

Raids on three Queens apartments may have derailed a terror plot, but they caused a rift between the NYPD and FBI officials who wanted to get more evidence, sources said Tuesday.

Although the NYPD’s top spokesman denied a rift, sources said the FBI wanted to hold off to determine exactly what a Denver-based terror cell was planning.

Sources said the group was plotting a major terrorist attack somewhere in New York City, although the target was unclear.

The FBI felt it knew enough about the suspects and their whereabouts to delay the raids.

But, an NYPD investigator involved in the case said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly preferred to “act too soon rather than act too late.”

The Monday night raids came three days after the eighth anniversary of 9/11, but produced no arrests

The FBI just doesn't "swarm" a private residence in todays world for no good reason. Especially in this new environment of pussy footing around with anyone on the left/socialist/communists/Arab/Muslim side.
One false move or anything resembling impropriety and bingo Holder will come down hard on them.
