Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is the preferred 2012 GOP presidential nominee among Christian conservatives, according to the results of a straw poll announced Saturday at an annual gathering of the religion (sic) right in Washington.

Prominent Republican leaders, including House Minority Leader John Boehner, took to the stage at the Value Voters Summit to blast President Obama's spending policies and announce the top 2012 presidential pick among conservative voters.

The summit's poll, which featured 9 presidential prospects, found that 28 percent of Christian conservatives said Huckabee would revive the Republican party and traditional conservative principles while 12.4 percent preferred former Massachustts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Other strong contenders included Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who won over 12.23 percent of conservative voters. Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence came out in in a virtual tie at 12.06 percent and 11.89 percent, respectively.

Oh, and in case you haven’t figured this out, there were 597 votes.

Each vote would translate to, you guessed it, 0.17%. Or more accuratly, 0.167%.

So, in fact, the difference between each of these candidates was 1 vote.

You have an atheist/agnostic/secular humanist nut currently as one (and yes, atheism IS a “religion”, or so says the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals).

I fear another neo-con running on the GOP ticket. Constitution Party, you very well might have my vote again.

Or essentially tied for 2nd, even though she wasn’t a speaker so her supporters had less reason to show up.

Yeah, that Julie Banderas idiot is the one that spewed that “virtually tied” crap. She seriously hates Sarah. Notice when she mentions her name, the look on her face, the disgust, but when she mentions Obama her face glows. Straw polls are meaningless at this point. We are what, 3 years away from the election. Does anyone know what will happen between now and 3 years from now. Heck, who knows what will happen tomorrow. Will Sarah run for President, who knows, no one knows, I doubt she even knows. Polls are just meant to make the winner feel big. I can care less about some idiotic poll about an event that is not even happening right now

It did not good, only because the Fringe Media and cross over progressive liberals voted in McCain to make sure we had a looser.

Should Huck become the nominee, you know we would all get behind him, that is just the way this process works. Like it or not.

I do not want Huck, he is being overplayed already with his tv show (which I never watch), he is not going to be our nominee, not going to happen. JMHO

Name recognition is everything at this point in the game. And .. explains to me why Huckabee went into TV.

However, I am more in favor of choosing a person the left hates. The reason: If the left hates my choice of a candidate - that means the left is really terrified of that person. Being terrified of that person can only mean one thing .. the left believes my candidate can win against them.

A sure way to gage a person’s strength is when the left DOES NOT ATTACK THEM - ergo .. Huckabee. Which means that the left is not in the least worried about having to beat Huckabee. All they have to do is brand him as a Bible Thumping Preacher, and the election is over.

COnservatives need the social conservatives because there aren’t enough people to win a majority otherwise.

And yes, coalitions suck, because you end up with people you disagree with on some issues.

But on the other hand, you don’t win elections with minority factions, unless you put a few of them together.

I don’t think so. Let’s do a national survey of only republicans and we will see who is the favorite. I’m putting the RNC on notice, if Huckabee, McCain, Rudy, Mitt or any other RINO runs for president, I will not waste my vote on them. The results will be the same as 2008 if they do. I will vote third party or write in Sarah’s name. Period.

Conservatives are NOT a minority faction. Anyone who thinks so is a frickin’ idiot. The reason we lost in 2006 and 2008 was because of the RINO infested GOP who did every thing wrong. Vote for who you want, but I will never vote for a RINO again. Let’s see how many elections the Rupublicans can lose in a row by running RINOs.

Gov. Bobby Jindal

Newt Gingrich

Rick Santorum.

All Catholic. Methinks that might say something about the feelings of the attendees.

I am talking about "Christian socialists" (which are i.e. dominating Europe's middle-right Christian parties). I was not referring to social conservatives. I am a social conservative and social conservatism is the heart and soul of conservatism.

We must beware of etatist nanny-staters who use social issues, but support big government.

Huckabee got us McCain which got us Obama which got us an unmitigated disaster.

Huckabee had every right to run, he has a history of winning elections unlike Romney, his running probably helped save us from the even larger disaster of Mitt Romney.

Why? They don't do well in any other polls either.

I wouldn't vote for Newt, either. But I wonder at times whether there is still a lingering anti-catholic feeling in the GOP. Let's face it...Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi and their ilk haven't made it easy for conservative Catholics to get much traction.

This is why 2010 is so important.

Control the local and you control the national.

Just look at 9/12.

Mr. Steele came out with a PATHETIC AND WEAK commercian not to stand up and speak for america, he made that pathetic and weak commercial in reaction to the 9/12 uprising against the Democrats.

GOP national leadership is stuck on clueless.

they still think they can manipulate control of the citizens.

bufoon like huckabee believe their own feces has no negative aroma.

same for mccain, and the rest of the efete insider contenders.

Democrat and Republican alike are full of themselves instead of full of principles.

The Democrat party is dedicated to the enemy.
We as conservatives can take over the Republican party. (third parties are a suckers bet worthy only of those who are suffer for fools like ross perot)
