I was driving down I-696 here in the detroit area ( otherwise known as the autobahn) and pulled up next to a smart car, in the center lane, going about 60...the rest of the freeway is going between 75 and 90 mph...i was in my gas guzzlin, pollution spewin, ozone depletin suv...that thing would be no more than a speed bump..driving these little cars on major freeways during rush hour is an invitation to death

I know what you mean. I see one about three times a week crossing our 3 mile long I-295 bridge across the St Johns River. At least the driver is “Smart” enough to stay in the right lane.

I see your point, but, going 75- 90 miles an hour in any car and get in a accident would be tragic and most likely fatal.

Well, you can drive a Smart on the actual autobahn (it has a top speed of 90mph), but that's not what it was designed for. The Smart is made for cities like Rome or Tokyo, where you can't park any other kind of car. In a way - while being a really terrible car - it's the world's most comfortable and safe, should I say greatest scooter.
BTW: American-style SUVs are mostly cr*p on the actual autobahn, too, as autobahns are rather winding roads than straight freeways, that's why for German cars cornering at 120 mph is an issue, even for a VW Golf / Jetta. And that's one thing you shouldn't try in an Escalade.
