Obama helping Putin restitch Iron Curtain
Orange Country Register ^ | 18 September 2001 | Mark Steyn

Scrapping of U.S. missile defense plans hands big victory to Russia's new czar.

Was it only April? There was President Barack Obama, speaking (as is his wont) in Prague, about the Iranian nuclear program and ballistic missile capability, and saluting America's plucky allies: "The Czech Republic and Poland have been courageous in agreeing to host a defense against these missiles," he declared. "As long as the threat from Iran persists, we will go forward with a missile defense system that is cost-effective and proven."

On Thursday, the administration scrapped its missile defense plans for Eastern Europe. The "courageous" Czechs and Poles will have to take their chances. Did the "threat from Iran" go away? Not so's you'd notice. The dawn of the nuclear Ayatollahs is perhaps only months away, and, just in case the Zionists or (please, no tittering) the formerly Great Satan is minded to take 'em out, Tehran will shortly be taking delivery of a bunch of S-300 anti-aircraft batteries from (ta-da!) Russia. Fancy that.

From the Comments section:

“It is going to be interesting to see if we can survive an idiot who is also a coward being in the White house.”

“Interesting” in the old-Chinese-curse sense, that is...

I really appreciate Mr. Steyn’s good humor and sense of irony but dear God his logic is going to leave nasty marks all over his targets. Lord have mercy.

Seriously, have we elected a President who does not like the American people and does not like America? It will never not boggle my mind.

I say let Europe take care of itself. We’re broke, in case nobody has noticed. Who’s going to look out for us when we’re beggars—nobody, that’s for sure. Last I heard, we still had 100,000 troops in Europe, 60 years after WW2, and 20 years after the collapse of the USSR. They can take care of themselves. Also pull the 45,000 troops out of Japan.

Time to look out for ourselves, for a change. We can’t be the world’s policeman anymore.

Steyn has argued that by allowing Europe to become US defense welfare queens we have fostered their decline as great powers. On the other hand, lots of people died in both world wars including many Americans.

So perhaps keeping stability in Europe was worth it. I expect the US go keep troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for decades too.

Perhaps. I don’t know. But I’m talking about now. Why have US troops “protecting” Europe and Japan today?

I don't know if you already know this but if you post Steyn’s articles from National Review’s website;
you don't have to excerpt them.

Have a good one!

Ciao!

,i>More “Amateur Hour” from the Obama Administration

obama and his disciples know exactly what they are doing and why they are doing it.

For the United States to be placed under United Nations control, the Constitutional style of government, the free enterprise system, and the Nation's morale must be either destroyed or neutralized. This has long been the goal of the Socialists. Through their control of the education system, and by and large the courts, along with the voluntarily saaistance of the media they have been slowly but steadly accomplishing that goal.

Hillary Clinton was supposed to accomplish this. They took a long look at Hillary in action and decided that she was not up to the job. This could be the reason for her seat in the Senate as a Senator from New York. At any rate she failed the test. So they went to obama and thus far he has met their expectations.

This is the reason that nothing good for us will come from the birth certificate. The powers that be know everything there is to know about obama.

My personal opinion is tha he is an imposter and fraud. I also believe that as long as he is doing his master's bidding, he will remain in office as long as he pleases. Also he will totally destroy the United States as we know it. Why? Because I do not believe our side has fully and actually realized what is happening and recogized how evil he and his followers are.Essentially, we are where the decent Germans were in the late 20' and early 30s. Both we and they could not grasp the idea ot total wickedness that enveloped them until it was too late for them. We have a few more seconds but time is rapidly running out.

I have no problems with the troops in Japan. Their threat is China today.

But I think that any country that slams us, get’s their troops pulled immediately. I’m sick of the Old Europe pissing on our flag while we protect their a$$es.

Eastern Europe and Japan is about all I’d be helping out. And the Aussie’s if they asked.

Steyn the Educator:

In a sense, the health care debate and the foreign policy debacle are two sides of the same coin: For Britain and other great powers, the decision to build a hugely expensive welfare state at home entailed inevitably a long retreat from responsibilities abroad, with a thousand small betrayals of peripheral allies along the way. A few years ago, the great scholar Bernard Lewis warned, during the debate on withdrawal from Iraq, that America risked being seen as “harmless as an enemy and treacherous as a friend.” In Moscow and Tehran, on the one hand, and Warsaw and Prague, on the other, they’re drawing their own conclusions.

This is not a comment on grammar. Would you think that is "master's" or "masters'"?
