Terror Agency

Nuclear Arms: The United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency should change its name to the International Atomic Terrorism Agency — that's how poor its oversight of nuclear proliferation has been.

It might be appropriate to melt departing IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei's Nobel Peace Prize medal to help build an interceptor missile to protect against Iranian nukes.

The Associated Press reports that ElBaradei's self-styled nuclear "watchdog," the IAEA, has concluded that Iran's Islamofascist regime can now design and produce a nuclear bomb, according to an unpublished section of its analysis of Iran.

The IAEA also believes Tehran has "probably tested" a key component for an implosion-based nuclear warhead, and has been developing a missile chamber to carry such a warhead.

If that doesn't send a chill down your spine, consider that the IAEA also tells of a 1984 confab at which Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei — who was president at the time — remarked that "a nuclear arsenal would serve Iran as a deterrent in the hands of God's soldiers."

So much for Khamenei's current claims that nuclear weapons are forbidden under Islam.

Why should all this be in a "secret" section of an IAEA report? U.S., British, French and German intelligence all report that Tehran has been at work on an atomic warhead. The only need for secrecy is to shield this defective, incompetent agency from embarrassment.

Hey, that also describes Congress and the Federal Reserve!

IAEA has never stopped anyone from getting a nuke.

Frankly, its not their job. Their job, their only job, is to document the process. They hate it when some government tries to confront the Irans and Saddams of the world, because it just makes their job of documenting the whole thing just that much more difficult.

North Korea built its bomb with IAEA inspectors on the job full time watching an empty plant. The bomb was being built in another plant a mile and a half down the road, but thats not the point. The point is that North Korea gave IAEA full access to their empty plant showing their good faith.

IAEA will never stop anyone from getting a bomb. They never will. Thats a job for governments. Most governments, though, will use the mere fact of IAEA’s existence as their cover for not doing anything.

Anyone remember how the “other” Joe Wilson made the claim that IAEA inspections made it impossible for Niger to contraband yellow cake? Except that IAEA considers yellowcake to be low grade and they don’t inspect it; yellow cake deals are supposed to be self-reported. Anyone know where Libya’s uranium came from? Half came from Niger, smuggled, but then self-reported after the fact. And the other half? Smuggled from Niger, and not self-reported.

IAEA is the perfect UN agency. They give the appearance of action without the responsibility of action or the messy outcomes of action.
