Russians Hail Obama's Missile Defense Retreat

MOSCOW -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Thursday that the decision by the Obama administration to scrap plans for a missile defense system in Europe is a "responsible move."

Medvedev made the comments on state TV just hours after President Barack Obama announced he was shelving the project, which has been a major irritant in U.S. relations with Russia.

He said he and Obama had discussed the issue of missile proliferation in their meetings earlier this year in London and Moscow and had agreed to work together to reduce that risk.

"The announcement made today in Washington shows that the conditions for such work are not bad," he said.

"We appreciate this responsible move by the U.S. president toward realizing our agreement," he said. "I am prepared to continue the dialogue."

Russia has strenuously objected to the plan to base the missile system in Poland and the Czech Republic, fearing it would compromise Russia's strategic nuclear capabilities.

When I was in school, many, many years ago.....I had a professor that made an interesting statement that seems to be coming true. He said that in the future, there will only be three or four leaders of the world. The United States, Russia, China and possibly the Saudi’s. Russia will take in all of Europe. The United States will take in Canada and Mexico and maybe someday South America. China will take in all Aisan countries. The Saudi’s will take in all of the Middle East.

Actually a better comparison would be Vidkun Quisling.

Probably a long list of failed socialist and communist policies he can spiffy up and present to his party faithful for immediate, nay, instant action.

GE got rewarded by ZERO with technology contracts in exchange for Russia taking back Czechs and Poles. Don’t know where Reppubies stand on this horrible deed, but I haven’t heard a peep yet.

Not too many moons ago, didn’t Russia agree to let the U.S. use a piece of their airspace so we could get to Afganistan quicker? I was left wondering what deal Barry had cut with Russia, now, I think I know. Just sayin..

Didn't 0 make a deal with Russia for them to "help" with Iran?

Didn't Russia recently side with Iran?

(Maybe that's the "help" 0 was actually asking for... ?)

To the best of my knowledge, nothing at all. Maybe they didn't teach "quid pro quo" at Hahvahd. But if you see Russia suddenly supporting the Olympics in Chicago, you'll know.
