I think the event that brought the two men together in that dark garage had a great ending: A good man triumphed over an evil man; one who had been committing evil and violence most of his life. The "sword" aspect is just icing on the cake!

Yes, they do, and it's generally out of a desire to show how broad-minded they are, which translates to a feeling of superiority over those of us expressing lowly "conventional" opinion. The author is welcome to his feeling of moral superiority. I'll settle for my gun.
