If you look at where he was posting the signs, they were on public property. The only argument the city has is to claim it was vandalism of city property. But then every other sign posted, taped, stuck in the ground on the corner, etc. would also violate that- including garage sale signs. You either enforce all of it or none of it. If grandma posting lost dogs signs isn’t slammed into a police car and cuffed, then the law is not being applied accordingly.

It appears the pro-obama mural was painted on private property, which is different than putting it on public property. The whole debate is that the pro-obama people did it so the anti-obama people should be able to do it too. However, if the anti-obama signs were on city property and the pro-obama signs were on private property then there really isn’t any argument for violation of 1st amendment rights or equal protection.
I agree that if he posted it on public property then all other unauthorized posters would need to be pursued as well, which may very well be the case. For all we know, whenever someone posts a garage sale sign, they too are given a ticket. You just would not have heard about it on national news because it wouldn’t be political. I live in TX and some cities do have laws that prevent the display of any signs/posters on public property.
Again, you are assuming that this guy did not break any law or that he didn’t attempt to avoid the cops or resist the cops when they attempted to ticket him.
Too many times I’ve seen stories about a guy getting arrested and claiming that he was brutalized by the police for now reason. However, when all the facts come out, the offender usually took a swing at the cops or refused to obey the cop’s lawful order so the cops “slammed” him to the ground/car and arrested him.
As a conservative you should really wait for ALL of the facts before making a judgement that the cops are automatically wrong. Sometimes they are and sometimes they are not. Please, don’t be like the libs and refuse to allow facts to get in the way of your opinion.

Also, you are forgetting that there could be different laws for posting a sign in the ground vs. posting on a telephone pole vs. posted on a building. There may also be a difference in the laws regarding the number of violations and the severity of the punishment. For instance, one sign violation may result in a verbal warning; multiple sign violations may result in a ticket; multiple sign violations using a destructive adhesive that caused estimated property damage of greater than $500 may result in a ticket and/or jail time.
As of right now, you are talking about something that you don’t know anything about. You don’t have all of the facts and you don’t have any of the background information necessary to determine who was wrong in this situation. Now who is the Einstein?
