The Houston Comical, the city's only daily paper, is liberal.
You need to get your bearing here before you defend this city as some sort of conservative bastion.
Even the corrupt DA Chuck Rosenthal (R) said that he didn't really “wanna” enforce the same sex sodomy law but he “had no choice” (although he ignored State law that permitted people to carry guns in their cars, saying that he would prosecute them as felons and let them defend themselves all the way to the state supreme court). He's gone now. Run out of office over an internal “affair” and so called racist emails. I'd stopped voting for him years ago.
Yes, Houston proper is liberal. It is considered a “sanctuary city” for illegals (Austin is also very liberal). Houston has a high minority population. However, most of the suburbs are very conservative.
I think some of the freepers must have misunderstood my comments. I’m not defending the city or the cops, but I’m not yet defending the protester either. If someone with a Palin or Obama sticker on their car gets stopped for speeding, I’m not going to automatically assume the stop was purely political or racist. I’m the kind of person that first wants to know if the person is speeding. If they are, then the sticker usually becomes irrelevant since the driver did violate the law and deserved the ticket.
However, I will be the first to say that the cop should be hammered if the driver wasn’t speeding and/or it is revealed that the stop was politically or racially motivated.
My point is that the city and cops may be completely at fault, but the protester could be at fault also. I need more than just the protester’s side of the story to decide though. I believe in listen, but verify.
The problem is if conservatives constantly claim liberal bias without knowing for sure, then it loses its affect much like crying wolf or much like the libs calling everything conservative racist. We have to know the facts so that we can pick and choose our battles.
