Peter Schiff, a Waterbury money manager, author and financial pundit, today used "Morning Joe" as the platform from which to launch his much-anticipated bid to challenge Sen. Christopher Dodd.
The announcement came as no great surprise. There have been multiple reports, it was teased on a twitter feed and a grassroots group of California liberatarians have been pushing for Schiff to run for months.
"Smashed your TV? Fix it and tune into Morning Joe at 8:15 tomorrow morning!," Schiff tweeted yesterday afternoon. A Web site for Schiff's campaign is already up and running.

This should be good news. I hope Schiff wins.
Ok sounds good. does he have a chance?
I think so, what with four RINOs splitting the vote. He’s also already polling 35% to Dodd’s 42%.
That statement shouldn’t be difficult to counteract. “Dodd = Mortgage Meltdown. Any questions?”
THANK GOD!! SANITY PREVAILS!! Linda McMahon is a JOKE!! What SANE Republican would vote for her?
Who would have thought there would be a major contested race in this state. Dodd has run almost unopposed for the last several elections. Now perhaps 4 or 5 major Republicans are vying to take him on. That is a good sign. I suppose the strongest candidate would be Rob Simmons. Too bad he is pro choice and even voted against banning partial birth abortion.
What he wasn't a community organizer or a failed comedian?
Maybe that's what we need. Real citizens not career politicians.
Rob Simmons is a RINO’s RINO. Like you said about his views on abortion, he’s really got nothing good to balance himself out.
“The solution is the free market ... what made this country great,” said Schiff.
Schiff went on to blame the Federal Reserve for the economic collapse that still has the nation reeling, blaming them for supplying the easy that allowed some investors to leverage themselves at rates of 30-to-1 or higher.
“We're in worse shape now than before the crisis, deeper in debt,” Schiff recently told the Associated Press. “We should have let more institutions fail.”
He's got my vote already!
Now if we can get Santelli to run...
Anyone hear Jim Vicevich's interview with Peter Schiff a few minutes ago?
Schiff stated that he hasn't voted in any election in years. When Vicevich politely asked Schiff about that, he became sort of unglued and babbled on and on about when he moved to Connecticut from California a few years ago he "didn't know about the rules" for registering to vote in CT (huh?), then didn't like any of the candidates. Said he was a big follower of Ron Paul, but didn't vote for anybody in the recent election because: "What was I supposed to do? I didn't like McCain, He he he he..."
Strange interview. Vicevich wasn't looking for a gotcha moment nor wasn't being antagonistic. He fairly gave Schiff a generous amount of air time to state his case. I was NOT impressed. IMO, he came off as a bit of a nutter.
Peter Schiff: NO THANKS. Next...
There are several GOP candidates who are after Dodd's seat in 2010. State Sen. Sam Caligiuri is pro-life, I believe.
Based on the strange interview I just heard with popular CT conservative talk show host Jim Vicevich (WTIC 1080 AM) - which was a very FRIENDLY forum for Schiff, by the way - there is no way I'd vote for Schiff in the GOP primary.
If Schiff is the last guy standing vs. Dodd in the general election, then of course I'd vote for Schiff. I don't think he'll make it that far quite frankly...
I didn’t know too much about Schiff. Sounds like he is not very impressive. That’s too bad.
McMahon had a big full page ad in the Register today. I assume she has the bucks to spend on this race. I need to know more about her views though.
Sounds like Sam Caligiuri might be the right man for the job, but if he is pro life he will be castigated as “far right” and all those wimpy suburban “moderates” will be horrified at this. We shall see how it goes.
McMahon had a full-page ad in the Republican-American as well. At this point, Caligiuri is my guy.
Schiff was full of excuses as to why he hasn't voted in any election in years. I have zero respect for anyone - especially someone running for public office - who can't even bother to vote.
Schiff also said he "couldn't remember" if he ever voted when he was a California resident as well. Sheesh... I vote in every election, whether for US President or for the local school board elections, to keep our taxes down. If I know I won't be in the state on election day, I go out of my way to vote via absentee ballot, no matter how small the election.
Schiff wants our votes, yet he doesn't bother to vote himself (whether a CT or CA resident)? No thanks.

I don't know much about her either. Sounds like her millions will make her a force to be reckoned with.

Yes, Caligiuri sounds good, but I agree with your comments above, unfortunately. I think it will end up to be either Simmons, because of name recognition or maybe McMahon, because of her money.
In any event, I sure hope the Dump Dodd movement in CT grows much stronger, and Dodd's sleaziness and culture of corruption registers with the average CT voter. Unfortunately Dodd's "positive" numbers are creeping back up...
Please see post #18... I should have included you in that ping. ;-)
