Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT): "The middle class in this country is collapsing. We've got 17-percent of our population who don't have jobs; people have lost their homes, people have lost their savings."

17% unemployment?
Is he from France or something?
I’m wondering if this was an unintended blunder by this democrat to admit this on the air!
He's referring to the U6 rate from Bureau of Labor Statistics
He could be from Michigan though. Granholm delivered on her promise to “blow us away”.
He’s including people who are out of work AND folks who are underemployed.
Rush uses that a lot.
Mr. Sanders isn’t supposed to see a middle class anyway - he’s a real socialist - the only in the Senate.
They love him in Vermont. Ethan Allen would throw up at the thought.
These people make it up as they go along. Now that people are marching and questioning, these idiots are completely flustered..
No.
That is the real (U6) unemployment rate.
Not simply the number of people drawing unemployment insurance (around 9.7 percent)
17 percent is the real unemployment rate.
I’m not sure the real number but their is no question that government statistics are extremely rosy.
Bernie’s Logic:
Keep funding criminals to keep them employed.
What an asshat.
Other than Obama, is there a better example of what a useless bunch of chair-warming twits we have running the government?
Is that the figure that includes people who aren’t even looking for jobs?
That’s a far cry from when they were screaming because it ticked up a notch to 5.6 percent under GWB.

It’s the figure that includes those who were looking for work and gave up, yes.
U6 would have been pretty high I bet even during good times, so I am hesitant to call it the real rate....I think more of a compromise between the official rate and U6 is appropriate.
Regardless, the number is high, even if just 12-13 or so.
I simply MUST get myself a job as a government statistician.
Of course, they’ll have to teach me how to tell a “discouraged worker” from someone who is simply disgruntled, and a “marginally attached” worker from a “fully attached worker”, but hey, I’m ready to learn.
My only question is: How many workers, part-time or otherwise, are employed for reasons other than “economic”.
U-2 = Job losers and persons who completed jobs, as a percent of the civilian labor force.
U-3 = Total unemployed, as a percent of the labor force (official unemployment rate).
U-4 = Total unemployed plus discouraged workers, as percent of the civilian labor force discouraged workers.
U-5 = Total unemployed, plus discouraged workers, plus all other marginally attached workers as a percent of the civilian labor force plus marginally attached workers.
U-6 = Total unemployed, plus all marginally attached workers, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the labor force plus all marginally attached workers.
For cause, look in the mirror, Bernie. Moron!
