NEW HAVEN A Yale School of Medicine psychiatry resident was himself recommended for psychiatric evaluation after he allegedly boasted that he liked to hurt people, flashed a gun and made unwanted sexual advances toward women at a State Street bar.

What a d*ckhead! Individuals who are serious and responsible CCW permit holders are all but invisible until the fit hits the shan.
It’s Connecticut and Yale....and his profession..a bad mix.
he allegedly boasted that he liked to hurt people, flashed a gun and made unwanted sexual advances toward women at a State Street bar.I don't see the problem here? He sounds like your typical shrink.
(maybe the REAL problem is that he isn't a cross-dressing homo)
’ at a State Street bar.’
A case of beer muscles?
Is he in fact a CCW licensee?
I doubt it. Connecticut is a discretionary issue state and forbids ownership of “evil black guns.”. His mere possession outside of his home is probably a felony.
RTFA!!!
The doctor, Robert Remington, 31, is due in court today to enter a plea to charges of carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a pistol while drunk, breach of peace and two felony counts of illegal possession of an assault rifle.
I really like this quote from the article's clueless author:
a receipt in his possession dated Aug. 29 for a 338 mm sniper rifle and accessories
Let's see... 338 mm is roughly 13.3 inches, so that would make it a 1330-caliber sniper rifle, wouldn't it? I suppose that the accessories for such a weapon would include a horse-trailer for schlepping the weapon and a magazine full of ammo... How about 338 caliber instead of mm... Even if the writer had no background using firearms (ya think?), he evidently was absent on the day when they taught the metric system at school (as was his editor, if they actually have such a thing at newspapers these days)...
His sniper rifle being tested before delivery:
You nailed it. Those are 16” guns fitted with 13.3” sleeves (used for proofing the sniper rifle barrels before sale to the general public).
Tangentially: Do you (or any other FReeper, for that matter) know why big Navy guns are loaded with that much powder? It seems like a lot is wasted on a big, impressive fireball. Does it actually add to the velocity of the projectile, or is as wasteful as it appears?
The HE round for a 16” weighs about 2200 pounds and is propelled at about 2700 feet per second (muzzle velocity). The AP round weighs in at about 2700 pounds and is propelled at about 3200 feet per second (muzzle velocity). That requires a lot of energy and only a lot of powder will do that. Bear in mind that the gases that exit the tube have already been used to impart velocity to the round. There is very little unburned propellant at that point. It is spectacular, but not wasteful. Remember that the designers want the tubes to last as long as possible, so putting in unneeded powder will rapidly shorten the lives of the tubes and the recoil mechanism.
Thanks for the explanation.
I've never tried using my belly-button for aiming, but I'll take your word for it. ;-)
