His charm, eloquence and winning smile were enough to earn him the presidency. But judging by his efforts with a mock lightsaber today, Barack Obama may be glad his opponents are the Republican Party and not Darth Vader’s forces. [Pics in URL]

Luckily Mr Obama was only practising with members of the U.S. fencing team on the White House lawn to support Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Bender, you’ll get a kick out of this. My oldest son, now 13, was watching “Return of the Jedi” with me when he was about 5.

He said, “I wanna learn how to do THAT!” whenever he saw the lightsabre duels.

Two years later, we started fencing lessons (who knew they allowed 7 year olds to poke each other with poity weapons??). Today? I drive him to fencing lessons 3-4 days a week, for 3-4 hours a day. He certainly has learned to do “THAT”.

And as usual...it’s all Darth Vader’s fault.
