Grim Prognosis From Doctors Opposed To Health Care Plan
IBD Editorials ^ | September 16, 2009 | TERRY JONES

Doctor opposition to health care overhaul proposals is broad and deep, revealing concerns not just about soaring costs, declining care, possible rationing and a lack of limits on malpractice suits, but also about government competence and motives, detailed responses to a new IBD/TIPP Poll show.

As reported Wednesday, 65% of the 1,376 practicing physicians who responded to a mailed questionnaire over the last two weeks said they opposed health care plans that have emerged from the administration and Congress. Just 33% supported them.

Perhaps the most shocking result: 45% of these professionals said they would consider closing their practices or retiring early if the reforms now under consideration were enacted.

The questionnaires were sent out Aug. 28 to 25,600 doctors nationwide. The sample was purchased from a list broker, Lake Group Media of Rye, N.Y. One hundred of those responding were retired, and their answers were not included in the final results.

Our poll also invited those taking part to tell us the reasons why they didn't like the health care reforms — or, in the minority of cases, why they did. The outpouring of written responses IBD received — about 1,300 in all — was stunning.

I wonder why none of them mentioned the long term psychological effects of this?

They speak of big government health care but this plan would increase government in all areas, across the board.

This plan will shift the paradigm away from individual freedom. We will think of government many times every day. Many of our most basic decisions will involve asking, ‘Will the government allow me to do this?’

If they get this plan then it is curtains for the Founders idea of freedom.

It may be a waste of time to argue about socialized medicine anyway. If what many economists are saying is true, then this country is already doomed.

Lenin: “Medicine is the cornerstone of the arch of the socialist state”.

The healthcare debate has shifted to healthinsurance legislation. Co-0ps are acceptable to BOTH parties. Co-ops are a repeat of the Plymouth Colonies experience with communalism under Gov. Carver. When he died and Gov. Bradford took over, individualism with celebration of invididual efforts saved the Colony, which had been starving from communal gardens which did not make the cut.
There are 1300 private ins. companies all in competition with each other now delivering, and responsive to public desires for the most part, good health coverage. Co-ops will seek the lowest common denominators in all perspecitves and will achieve them...then the offered solution will be single-payer, public option.

There can be no return to private ins. when the capital from private ins. goes back into the banking system...maybe that is the goal...the banks need the capital in the private ins. companies. Private ins companies will be gone forever. You will be taken care of as well as Obamas’ larger family relatives, and not as well as elected officials with their ‘special’ health plan. Cuban officials come to the US or Europe for healthcare, and, everyone else does too. Will they still come after our reforms? Govt. is still studying the travel arrangements and care for US MEdicare patients in Mexico...how nice.

Providers are dropping out of the current system too often already. After this we will all be seeing naturopathic docs, so get one in place now.

Just 33% supported them.

33%???? That's too high. Who are these doctors who support this monstrosity and how on earth did they ever graduate from medical school displaying such ignorance? If my doctor supports this I'm dumping him and finding a new one.

No way 33% of doctors support this. How would plumbers like to get 33% of their fees? Or how would YOU like to get 1/3rd of your paycheck?

Let us return to the days of poulstices, old wives remedies,
and biting a bullet for your surgery anesthesia. What a country!!! Next we will return to the days of the Pony Express for our mail delivery (they could probably do a better job). How one doctor can take on another 10,000 patient load and not make mistakes, which when he is sued enough, he will be forced out and voila, NO doctor for you.
