Screw the speechwriter. Bush showed his contempt for conservatives in broad daylight. It would be like some Obama underling claiming they heard him express admiration for Communism... it wouldn’t matter if it were true or not — we know that he’s a pinko regardless.

it’s the Republicans taking the directly opposite position against the whacked out Democrats every time.

Exactly! All five of 'em!

It is essentially the same primary system that gave us Ronald Reagan but then it also gave us George W. Bush and John McCain.

That being the case, how would you propose the that GOP change their primary system?

The left must love all the screaming Latimer’s fantasies are causing. Sometimes conservatives can be really dumb.

Bush “turned” into what he was, A Northeast Country Clubber in the finest William Weld tradition.

C'mon you know you just love it when these trash people write these exposees.

You eat it up. You get to salivate over your hated George Bush and join the trash crowd in ogling every appearance the puny speech writer makes.

Why should I take the word of someone who wants to sell a book based only on the fact that they spent a year or so writing speeches for GWB?

Don't take the word of the speech writer, but instead look at the actions of George W. Bush.

Signed and pushed for No Child Left Behind

Signed and pushed for the 750 Billion Dollar Medicare Part D

Pushed for Amnesty for Illegal Aliens.

So no, I do not need Bush speech writer to tell me that Bush was not aligned with Conservatives.

Yup, this guy will be the loony left's hero and they will treat every word of his as gospel just like many Freepers.

In his own words, Latimer wanted the WH to be more like "The West Wing". He's just a dweeb craving the spotlight.

If it were not 100% consistent with Bush’s behavior in office, it wouldn’t be getting any traction.

So totally accurate.

I think only the most diehard leftist RINO would dispute what Latimer said. We know, from GWBs own actions, that a lot of what Latimer has said is quite accurate.

GWB has done a lot of damage to the GOP. Unfortunately, there are some still posting on here who think GWB was a conservative.

Why? Because if he also wrote some of the Bushisms, America can at least have some closure that the GWB cronies have issued their closing arguments and can at last rest their case. Oh sorry that’s still not a reason to take the guy’s word.

The only defense of listening to this guy is if inflation gets as bad as it did under Weimar rule, the book would pay for itself as decent firewood.

And we get a front-row seat on it here at FR. Shaking my head.

Bush seemed to go soft in the head part way into his second term.

Signed No Child Left Behind -- January 2002
Signed McCain-Feingold -- March 2002
Signed Medicare prescription drug benefit -- December 2003
etc.

They pounce on every anti-Bush word like vultures.

Even from a money grubbing creep like Latimer.

Because I don't believe every two-bit "exposee"?

Whatta laugh. People who jump on this garbage take it for gospel are the ones who are warped.

In restrospect, maybe a bad move by Reagan. But, Reagan needed to keep the “Eastern Liberal Establishment” (what Reagan referred to GHWB as) from bolting to Jimmy Carter or liberal Independent John Anderson....and especially Anderson (8% of 1980 vote)

Still, Reagan did warn us of the Bushes when he called Bush part of the “Eastern Liberal Establishment” during the 1980 primary season. And, oh, was President Reagan so accurate!

You just don't get it. Bush is going to start acting like a conservative right after the mid-term elections… no wait… he'll start being conservative after he is reelected… no wait… he'll act like a conservative after the second mid-term election… mmmmmmmmm … well, he was just taking the issues away from the Democrats he didn't really believe in bigger, more expensive, more intrusive, government.

Besides, his intentions were good and that's what really matters.
