A senior Democratic senator says Homeland Security officials are treating the economic stimulus like a bottomless pit of taxpayer money.
North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan is calling on the Obama administration to suspend hundreds of millions of dollars in renovations to border checkpoints.
The administration did not follow its priority list when choosing projects. That allowed lower-priority projects, including those in Dorgan's home state, to receive millions of dollars ahead of much busier checkpoints.
Dorgan says it's wrong to spend $15 million on checkpoints serving a handful of cars a day.
North Dakota would receive $128 million for border projects. By offering to walk away from it, he is signaling doubt in the administration's assurances that the stimulus was handed out appropriately.

Are these checkpoints run by Acorn?
Well, isn't it?
Let’s give credit where credit is due. This D is willing to GIVE BACK the money, because he freely admits that the cost of the upgrades for the points in his state SHOULD be of lower priority.
Good for him.
Dorgan must be feeling the heat from back home because people are mad as hell about the wild stimulus spending.
Dorgan is actually one of the few Democrats who thinks instead of reacting on emotions
Dorgan is one of the few Dems who is not pro-illegal alien, and, is no Liberal Free Trader. Unlike most dems, and a good number of RINO, Dorgan gets it
Dorgan knows the problem with border security lies with the Mexican border, not the Canadian border. He knows also, that, pro-illegal alien politicians want to keep the Mexican border open for illegals.
As much as Dorgan knows that 15 million spent in his state would be nice for the economy....he cannot in good conscience justify such expenditure. Also, the unemployment rate in ND is a lot less than elsewhere in the US
Dorgan is still a rat and thus gives numbers to the libs. He needs to be run out of office!
Dorgan is in a conservative state and is running for reelection. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_elections,_2010#Senate_contests_in_2010
He has consistently supported the liberal agenda and has been most recently given a rating of 8 by the American Conservative Union http://www.votesmart.org/issue_rating_detail.php?r_id=4407
He supports and reelects the liberal Harry Reid as leader as well as the liberal Senate Committe members.
You can see from his voting record on appointees he has voted to confirm the likes of Jocelyn Elders and Timothy Geithner and voted against Samuel Alito, William Pryor, Priscilla Owen and Janice R Brown as justices.
I respectfully disagree with your assessment: He comes out as supporting the position of most of his constituents’s conservative views only during election time.
Oh, did I already mention that he is up for reelection in 14 months?
