Congressman Spencer Bachus comments on ACORN

Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) Tuesday called for an end to federal funding for ACORN, a leftwing activist group linked to voter registration fraud and other criminal activity.
Bachus became an original cosponsor of the Defund ACORN Act, which would eliminate all ties, including financial support, between the government and the organization. He also signed a letter to President Obama demanding a termination of taxpayer assistance to the group.
Congressman Bachus said, “Taxpayer funding for ACORN’s far left agenda must end now. It is unconscionable to use the hard-earned money of the American taxpayer to support a radical organization that has repeatedly been embroiled in scandal and shady activity. This is an outrageous use of public money and the ties must be cut off immediately and permanently.”
According to one analysis of budget data, the federal government has awarded more than $53 million in direct funding to ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) since 1994. ACORN fraudulently registered thousands of voters during last year’s elections and has been investigated for other potentially illegal activities. Last week, the U.S. Census Department said it would not allow ACORN to officially assist with the 2010 census count, citing a lack of confidence in the organization.

How about: “Mr. President, when you worked for ACORN were you in the voter fraud section, or the prostitution and tax evasion division?”
'Voter fraud', 'prostitution', and 'tax evasion' are all racist codewords.

The “few bad apples” defense will be tried again, and might have legs for awhile ( for whoever wants to hear it), but it too is on the way out. ACORN should be destroyed from top to bottom) and not allow to regroup or reconstitute itself under any other name, if it has the same (highly idealized) goals.But the way to do it is the smart way, which takes into account spin doctors, “strategists” and news cycles.
If pushed, its defenders will grudgingly admit , that , yes,ACORN is a large organization, and there are many many employees who were not properly vetted, notably in these notorious cases, employees who acted on their own,way outside “company policy”. THAT MUCH IS OBVIOUS.
What NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED,is the very nature of the organization,EXACTLY how much taxpayer money has gone to it, WHERE its other sources of funding have come from , and WHAT the nature and philosophy and objectives of ACORN actually ARE.WHAT HAS IT DONE THAT IS ACTUALLY OF USE TO ANYONE, OR THE SOCIETY AT LARGE? Has it actually “found” low income housing for poor people? How has it done this?
Looking at the balance sheet after a thorough investigation, the LEAST you could expect is that ACORN will not receive ONE PENNY of taxpayers money, UNDER ANY FORM, EVER AGAIN. This would leave its funding up to private institutions, George Soros, or that always availabe coterie of naive bleeding heart liberals who feel all warm and gooey inside when they do something for “the little people”, when they “give back”. WITHOUT TAXPAYER MONEY, ACORN will be on its own, and SO WILL THOSE WHO MIGHT PROVIDE ANY SOURCE OF FUNDING. So far, my instincts tell me, OUR FUNDING is the lions share, and the necessary “legitimate” boost that brings others into the picture. ACORN is probably TOO BIG, and TOO ENTWINED with TOO MANY other organizations, and TOO TIED INTO both the Zero Administration and large segments of the Democratic Party to disappear completely , with all its personnel joining the statistics of the “unemployed”. But it is absolutely necessary that we keep an eye on it, and follow the money, wherever it is, and wherever it comes from, as the ACORN organization as we know it, starts to “go down”.
