I would think Japan's neighbors might be as uneasy about this as anyone. Apparently the new PM is a bit of a fruitcake, and it remains to be seen how long he keeps the job.

However, if he manages to divorce Japanese and US foreign policy in the meantime, then a precedent will have been set. The next PM might be of a hawkish nature on defense matters. Perhaps he'd want an independent nuclear deterrent, for example.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but that has got be on the minds of her neighbors.

Not only he IS a bit of a fruitcake, so is his wife who thinks she was abducted by aliens.
