BELLEVILLE, Ill. — A southwestern Illinois school superintendent says two students suspected of attacking a 17-year-old schoolmate on a school bus have been suspended.
Greg Moats cited state privacy laws in declining to say how long the suspensions involving the Belleville West High School students, ages 15 and 14, over Monday's disruptions on the bus would last.
Police initially said the beating of the white student by two black students appeared to be racially motivated. But police on Tuesday backed away from that.

I am against hate crimes in general, but if they are to be applied, they better be applied in this case.

I’m likely going to get flamed, but I didn’t see anything particularly brutal. It was a fight. Fights look like that. I didn’t see any weapons, no biting, gouging, no broken bones, nothing. I saw one kid getting his butt whupped by another.

Nine times out of ten that’s the way they operate. The more they outnumber you the tougher they get.
I just wanted to cry for the poor boy. That POS bus driver needs to be canned. I hope the parents sue. Then I hope the son sues the parents for subjecting him to a school with a bunch of animals. Teachers and bus drivers need to be equipped with tasers and/or tranquilizer guns. Clearly the animals have taken over the zoo. Maybe Obama can give another speech—I don’t think the first one did the trick.
Would you think those same things if that was your son (or daughter)?
Remember this happened in Illinois.
That is Obama’s state, the state that produced a leader who “transcended” race.
Waht I saw on the tape is a brutal beating by someone who belongs in the state penitentiary for a long time.
If he walks where I live, I know how to deal with him.
Black on White or any ethnic race on White is not a hate crime. Only White on anyone else is a hate crime.. kinda like being a conservative is an assumed racist.
I'd think I'd failed to teach her adequate self-defense skills.
I'm not saying that it was okay, shouldn't be punished, whatever. But to characterize it as a "brutal beating" minimizes real brutality, like the Christian-Newsom murders, the man who bit his four-year old child's eyes out, or the man who threw his infant son out into traffic. All of those stories can be found here on FR, btw.
