A SECURITY crackdown has been ordered at NSW Parliament after a protester illegally gained entry and threatened to shoot an MP.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the female protester entered Parliament, by-passing security, with the help of another MP.
She then gained access to the secure area containing MPs' offices and approached Shooters MP Robert Brown before making a verbal threat.
"You deserve to be shot," the protester yelled at Mr Brown.
The woman had been with a group outside the front gates of Parliament House in Macquarie St last Thursday during a protest against a proposal to amend gun control legislation.
The protester was not being escorted and repeated the threats to other MPs in the elevator on her way out of the building.
The Parliament's presiding officers are investigating how the protester gained access to level 11 of Parliament, a secure zone which requires swipe access for entry.
Mr Brown confirmed he lodged a complaint with the Upper House president Peter Primrose to record the incident but was reluctant to take further action.
Security officers also lodged a complaint against Greens MP Lee Rhiannon and claimed she refused to allow security officers to check in a visitor. Ms Rhiannon said she was not aware of the threat and added she brought in visitors often - as did most MPs - and was never required to sign them in.
