For many years, Ford Motor Co. was considered the sickest of Detroit's car manufacturers. But conventional wisdom was stood on its head last fall when Ford parted company with General Motors Corp. and Chrysler Group LLC by forgoing federal help during the most perilous times for automakers.
By the end of that crisis, GM and Chrysler had received a total of $64 billion, while Ford got nothing though like other automakers, it is receiving federal aid to develop green technologies.
Now, nine months later, Ford appears to be well along on the road to recovery and in many ways is in a stronger position than its longtime rival GM. While Ford's senior executives say the company won't reach sustained profitability until 2011, the company surprised analysts by posting net income of $2.3 billion in the second quarter and followed that with healthy sales increases in July and August thanks to an assist from the federal cash-for-clunkers program. For its next sales boost, Ford is counting on a marketing blitz, which will be well in evidence in the days ahead, as Ford is a primary sponsor of NBC's new Jay Leno show.

We like the competitors to Government Motors.
It helps to be a corporate member of The Council on Foreign Relations.
The Lions are the ones that needed the bailout.
I have always bought Chrysler first, Ford Second and GM 3rd.
now, for any new vehicles, I buy, it will be Ford first.
(though I am still interested in a low mileage new model Challenger.....)
Ford needs to get back to its roots — i.e., Henry Ford, who despised unions and communists and was willing to say it. He was lambasted for it (along with Charles Lindberg and others), but HE WAS RIGHT. They called HIM a racist, too. He wasn’t. If Ford gets back to its roots, I’ll buy one of those Fords I’ve previously sworn to never buy again, and a lot of other Americans who actually have some money will get back to their program as well.
Right-O!!!!!
The only reason Ford is doing well is because they are in with the Big Bankers in J.P. Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs. They opened a line of credit before the bubble popped (what a coincidence !)
And now they are reaping the rewards of being the only American automaker not on the government paps. The Ford Foundation is almost as bad as the Rockefeller Foundation.
Precisely.
Don’t underestimate the passion of many Americans to keep the gov’t to minimal size and influence on the populace.
I knew "clunkers" was coming but I gave mine away and took a Ford rebate..I still love that old car!
maybe FORD paid off the right person to be left alone....(maybe Odumbo himself)
I’ve always had good luck with Ford and Chevy - buying whichever was available when I needed another car (always 2-4 years old).
Currently have a 2005 Ford Freestar that is a honey - 24 mpg on the highway at 70 mph and the air on. Wife takes it down to the Ford garage for maintence - no higher than the local shops. Just came back from a 6,000 cross-country trip and the car was pretty grungy. After the oil change, the car was spotless. Wife asked the guy how come and he said the boys had some spare time and washed it for her. She gave ‘em $20.
Ok, this is a NV small town but stuff like that keeps us coming back. It was the same back in PA. The guys saw something was screwed up on the battery fitting, replaced it and charged her a buck.
Anything the government gets their hands on, gets screwed up. Of course, the same can be said for unions, so Ford is still screwed, it may just take a little longer.
For as long as the NeoComs allow Ford to exist as a private business, Ford will do great. Rest assured that Obama and the NeoComs have no intentions of allowing Ford to remain independent. What they can’t get by outright takeover, they’ll get by regulating. Ford’s future isn’t in this Amerika.
....I put my money where my mouth was and bought 500 shares of Ford a while back.
I would rather “push” a Ford than drive anything “Guvment Motors” has.
We're currently an all-Ford family - an Expedition, an F-150, and two Explorers.
Windstar and 2 Rangers in our driveway.
