Rush Limbaugh: "Beware, Folks: A Third Party Will Reelect Obama and the Democrats"
RushLimbaugh.com ^ | 14 Sep 09 | Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: And you enjoyed it for all the reasons that you've mentioned. But we've gotta be really, really careful here, Dana, about this left versus right government thing. You mentioned third party, and we've been through this with Perot.

CALLER: I know that. I know that. And I think Perot helped Clinton get in, I don't doubt that. I do believe there has to be a huge movement before people can vote that way.

RUSH: But a third party is not going to do anything other but ensure the reelection of Obama and every other Democrat running for office because even if you come up with a charismatic third-party presidential candidate, still isn't going to have anybody of any significance running in that party for seats in Congress of the US Senate unless this movement happened to become the majority movement in the country, and that's not what's happening. I respectfully disagree with you here. I understand the anger at the Republican Party. Hell, I've got it, too. I've had it for a long, long time. But don't make the mistake of thinking this is not a left versus right thing. This is a conservative ascendancy that's going on out there. You didn't show up and protest like this when the Republicans were in power.

I guess we should just pack it in, then. We are a one party system, now.

You don't count very well, we have about 51 parties, two of them matter and 49 of them are the famous "third parties".

“What would you guys do without that meager 1975 quote when Reagan was being interviewed by libertarians and trying to woo them to the GOP, the rest of the interview was not so flattering as that vague line.”

So, your vision of the GOP is one with intrusive and ever-larger government? That’s certainly the path they’ve taken.

We do not have time to start from scratch... but all that aside, everyone pushing for third party go have fun, so far the Green party has tried it, the Libertarian Party has tried it, the conservative party has tried it... fact is we are firmly a two-party country and if it wasn’t for the damned libertarian Bob Barr McCain wouldn’t have lost Indiana or North Carolina last year.

Ah, but I’m told we are a two party system and nothing will change that.

Of course, those two parties are two wings of the SAME party.

I count just fine.

“McCain wouldn’t have lost Indiana or North Carolina last year.

McCain didn’t WANT to win. He’s quite happy carrying Obama’s water.

I thought that you would get the larger point. Third parties did give us Bush in 2000, and they have cost us important seats like Senator Cantwell’s.

Sorry, I assumed you were replying with a counter to my statement that “third parties did not give us Obama.” Glad you agree.

No, he didn’t give up with the Soviets. He also did a lot of non-conservative things like selling them grain, deliberately running deficits to speed up the arms race, making treaties that treated them like equals (supposedly), ran a lot of quite questionable covert operations with the help of a lot of very bad people, and etc. and etc.

He also was very chummy with Tip O’Neill outside the limelight, and worked hand-in-glove with the Democrats to keep the world on an even keel.

36 is still a youth these days.

Yeah, your counting seems to amount to “do not vote republican”, which is an interesting obsession for a new sign up to have.

I’m not for for ending border control, abortion, homosexual adoption and “marriage” and totally open homosexuality in the military among other things.

You are OK with those?

I have become anti-partisan, which is in keeping with our founding father's wishes.

I guess that is why Jefferson and Madison founded the (Democratic-) Republican Party, and Adams and Hamilton founded the Federalist Party to support Washington.

None of those are necessarily “non-conservative”. Defense is one of the FEW purposes for the Federal government. Education is not one of those purposes.

“36 is still a youth these days.”

Yep. I’m going to be stuck paying for social security for the rest of my career, yet won’t see a dime. Thanks for adding paying for Medicare Part D to that, by the way. All while my elders sell out our country for a mess of potage.

Age does not beget wisdom.

if these serious conservatives did not show up in Iowa or New Hampshire to ring a few doorbells, and spend a few bucks on gas, how can they build a national party, recruit 20 million members, raise $500 million and build an army of candidates and staff people?

Bill Richardson had more volunteers in his offices than all of the GOP candidates combined ... Bill Richardson! The deadest campaign in the DEM process.

Conservatives really do not do political campaigns. I KNOW YOU DO, BUT you are not 200,000 people.

My point is merely this - the GOP has to earn my vote. Lately, it hasn’t been. I will never vote for a liberal again.

I’m a conservative. I’m not for any of those.

Pity the GOP doesn’t agree, or they might’ve won this last time.

Er, responsibility is not something that can be handed off; you do not excuse yourself from consequences by claiming that the responsibility lies with someone else.

I.e., its always your fault, you can’t evade it. Even if the choice is between bad and worse, you are morally required to make that choice.

“We” got 8 years of less-bad government than we are getting now. In fact, without a war we would probably have had a balanced budget in 2006 and 2007; and barring 9/11 we would probably have had one for at least three years.

And what would a Democratic President, House & Senate have done with the war, anyway ?

Don't expect the people in charge right now to step aside for conservatives just because they're losing elections

Then push them out of the way. Run for precinct committeeman, work with other conservatives to elect the party leaders, run good people for the nomination.

I was here eight years ago, when the libertarians here at the time said that we should do nothing against those who blew up the World Trade Center

Creating a straw man, eh? It is sooo much easier to make things up than actually dicuss the facts, isn't it? No libertarian here said that, certainly not this one. Heck, Ron Paul, our hero, pushed hard for a letter of marque and reprisal.

Does the GOP have any of that any longer?

What I want is an end to those two states picking our candidates for us.

“Bill Richardson had more volunteers in his offices than all of the GOP candidates combined ... Bill Richardson! The deadest campaign in the DEM process.”

Look who the front runners were: liberal Republicans.
