Glenn Beck Is On Our Side
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | September 14, 2009 | David Horowitz

Posted on 09/14/2009 3:09:44 PM PDT by HorowitzianConservative

David Frum has responded -- sort of -- to my Newsreal critique of his blistering attack on Glenn Beck in tones you would normally use for a Ward Churchill or a William Ayers or a Cynthia McKinney.

I say "sort of" because he has not addressed the points I made and has instead misrepresented my views. I did not say that Beck's comments were false. Beck's sin so far as I can tell from David's posts are that he conflated Cass Sunstein with Peter Singer. His bad. How big a sin is this? Well it's all about context isn't it. Animal rights is not what is agitating Beck. What he is concerned about is Sunstein's apparent desire to expand the libel laws and clamp down on the Internet. It's about free speech, something a blogger like David should be concerned about. So while I do think that Beck should have been more careful in his characterization of Sunstein, I don't think in the present political atmosphere it's unusual to overstate a case nor that somebody should be read out of civilized company for making such mistakes.

Joe Klein describes Republican critics of Obama as "racists" in the current edition of Time. What has David got to say about Klein? That's a big part of my problem with David's current crusade. His passionate defense of Sunstein (who after all is a member of an Adminstration that is busily wrecking the country and had no problem serving with Van Jones) is extraordinary for a man of David's normally conservative temperament. I've never heard David raise his voice this way in defense of maligned conservatives. (Maybe I just missed it.)

I was alarmed when Glenn lost about five full minuts of his boradcast in my part of the world today. He was full of steam, and doing great. #hat happened?

I just heard Glenn Beck talking about the towers and why haven't they been rebuilt.

He was really good as usual.

“Joe Klein describes Republican critics of Obama as “racists””

The desperation of liberals, the race card. Whodathunk? You go on thinking that Joe, and watch what happens November 2010.

I haven’t read what Beck said, exactly, or what Frum said.

But I will say that I think Peter Singer and Cass Sunstein have something very important in common. They are both big-time supporters of the Culture of Death, and in particular, euthanasia and abortion.

Also, although I haven’t read what Frum said, frankly the guy is a RINO loser, and it would not be surprising if he drank the Obama koolaid once again. He has certainly been doing so pretty regularly.

Why would Horowitz still consider Frum to be a conservative?

I'll bet a lot of them do. Don't forget Rahm Emanuel's brother who sits on the Comparative Effectiveness Panel.

Until I saw the People’s Cube on that, I actually didn’t know if it was a joke or for real. I wouldn’t have been surprized if it was a real Newsweek cover. Pretty clever.

David Frum has made the opposite intellectual journey as the one that has defined the life of David Horowitz. Whereas Horowitz discovered the cancerous rot at the core of Progressivism and inoculated himself from it, Frum has embraced the disease as a cure for whatever insecurities enveloped him as a Republican in a Democratic city. That it will ultimately destroy him has not yet penetrated Frum's consciousness, enamored as he is of the Strange New Respect accorded his ilk by those he formerly pretended to detest.

In a related context: heroin always destroys the junkies who think themselves more powerful than its siren song. RIP: "New Wave" poet Jim Carroll, just yesterday, as an example of the seemingly endless capability of humans for hubris amidst well-expressed folly.

Sunstein does have an animal rights agenda. He co-authored a book on it. http://www.oup.com/us/catalog/general/subject/Politics/AmericanPolitics/ScienceTechnologyEnvironmentalPo/?view=usa&ci=9780195305104 Groups such as the National Cattlemen’s Beef Assoc. opposed his confirmation. http://www.cattlenetwork.com/KLA—Sunstein-Confirmed-Despite-Animal-Agriculture-s-Concerns/2009-09-11/Article.aspx?oid=834699&fid=CN-LATEST_NEWS_
