“Reports: NYC Raid Focuses On Denver Terror Cell”
Posted: Sep 15, 2009 02:00 PM
Updated: Sep 15, 2009 03:48 PM

NEW YORK (AP) -

SNIPPET: “Hundreds of FBI agents are “on the ground in Colorado, conducting round-the-clock surveillance on five suspects,” the Daily News reported.”

SNIPPET: “The joint FBI and Homeland Security intelligence warning lists indicators that could tip off law enforcement to homemade hydrogen peroxide-based explosives, such as people with burn marks on their hands, face or arms; foul odors coming from a room or building; and large industrial fans or multiple window fans.

The warning also said that these homemade explosive materials can be hidden in backpacks, suitcases or plastic containers.

“The FBI is seriously spooked about these guys planning another 9/11,” a former senior counter terrorism official told the Daily News. “This is not some ... FBI informant-driven case. This is the real thing.””

OPINION.

OK, let’s all go back a moment and look at post no. 262. You notice the warning noted that explosives might be hidden in backpacks, suitcases or plastic containers.

So, if you see these items sitting by themselves somewhere you DON’T TOUCH IT and REPORT THE LOCATION of the suspicious item.

#

Now, let’s take a moment out to look at an OFF THREAD TOPIC article.

Note: Any plastic container can do — it does not have to be “Tupperware” brand.

stepping back in time...

“Aqua, Bajaj and Tupperware Bomb…”
Published by sujadi-siswo at 6:17 pm under Uncategorized

SNIPPET: “The official police documents stated “Tupperware Bomb”.

And the prosecutors actually brought dozens of “Tupperware bombs” into the courtroom.

Of course, the police said the bombs have been deactivated.

But hey…bombs are bombs. I felt like running for cover the moment they took them out to show the judges.

The bomb parts are packed neatly into a “Tupperware” similar to the ones you have your noodles packed to go.

And they are meant to be detonated by a timer or remote control.”

Now one more reminder. Pre-program your cell phone/computer/blackberry with your emergency contact numbers. It’s just a good idea.

Thanks Cindy - good advice, and good context post....

If, and it’s a BIG ‘if’, there’s any depth to this story we’re following, it’s shaping up to indicate a plan for multiple, coordinated, ‘soft target’ attacks...

Vigilance is required.....

SNIPPET from post no. 264:

"The FBI's elite Hostage Rescue Squad arrived in New York in anticipation of the offensive to thwart a Denver-based terror cell with ties to Al Qaeda, police sources told the Daily News.

Another source said an earlier raid uncovered nine backpacks and cell phones, raising memories of the March 2004 bombings in Madrid."

” raising memories of the March 2004 bombings in Madrid “

IMO, much more accurate than the ‘9/11’ invocations I’ve seen on this, and other, threads....

Qns. ‘Qaeda’ plotted backpack bombs (NYC attack by ROP disrupted)
NY Post ^ | 9/16/09 | SELIM ALGAR in Aurora, Colo., and RICH CALDER in New York

Posted on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 11:34:55 AM by jimbo123

The terror plot unearthed after raids on three Queens homes involved operatives detonating nine explosives-laden backpacks to kill “as many people as possible,” The Post has learned.

“They were going to blow up several places simultaneously and take out as many people as possible — a large number of people,” a federal law-enforcement official said.

Empty backpacks were among the evidence seized from one of the Flushing apartments raided by a NYPD-FBI team Monday.

Authorities also removed computers, cellphones and other material. No explosives were found.

The predawn raids were sparked by the reappearance in New York City of an al Qaeda associate who’d gotten top-level training in bomb-making at a Pakistani terrorist camp, sources said.

Najibullah Zazi was schooled in demolitions and military tactics along with several other men; all eventually settled in Queens, according to the sources.

‘Disrupted’?? Hardly... No arrests, no bombs or bomb materials seized (per published reports)....

I don’t see anything that would put the terrorists off their game - maybe drive ‘em further underground, or alter their timeline, but by all indications, ‘cells’ and ‘plans’ remain intact....

FBI unit set for more anti-terror raids in Queens; Fears of Madrid-style subway bombings
NY Daily News ^ | 09/16/2009 | Numerous

Posted on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 12:09:12 PM by Rutles4Ever

Fearful of a Madrid-style subway train bombing, authorities are poised to make more raids to seize bomb-making materials at locations in Queens, sources said Wednesday.

The FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team arrived in New York in anticipation of the offensive to thwart a Denver-based terror cell with ties to Al Qaeda, police sources told the Daily News.

Another source said an earlier raid uncovered nine backpacks and cell phones, raising memories of the March 2004 bombings in Madrid. A series of terrorist bombs detonated aboard commuter trains killed 191 people.

The source said authorities feared a potential attack on the city subway, with its 5.2 million daily riders.

When somebody says they're going to kill you, believe them.

Hiya Moe... Glad to see ya check in...

The more information we get on this story, the less comprehensible it becomes...

Two things — the (public, at least) concentration of effort on NYC is dangerous and short-sighted...

and — whatever this is, it could go down as early as this weekend...

This is getting worrisome....

FBI searches home of Colorado man in terror probe

AURORA, Colo. (AP) - FBI agents are searching the home of a Colorado man identified by law enforcement as having a possible al-Qaida link.
FBI agents and sheriff’s deputies entered the home of Najibullah (NAH-gee-bull-ah) Zazi (ZAH-zee) in suburban Denver on Wednesday. FBI special agent Kathleen Wright confirms they are executing a search warrant.

Zazi denies he’s a central figure in a terrorism investigation that fed fears of a possible bomb plot and led to several police raids Monday in New York City.

I’d love to post the whole article - there’s some fascinating tidbits buried deep - but it’s an AP article, and I sure don’t want to get crossways with the Mods...

It’s well worth clicking through the link, though....

FBI Raids Home Of Alleged Terror Suspect

“Najibullah Zazi Says He Has No Ties To Al-Qaida”

POSTED: 2:32 pm MDT September 16, 2009
UPDATED: 5:07 pm MDT September 16, 2009

AURORA, Colo. —

SNIPPET: “Agents executed a search warrant just around 2:20 p.m. at the home of Najibullah Zazi, who has denied he has any links to terrorist groups.”

SNIPPET: “Crime scene tape surrounded the apartment building located on Smokey Hill Road, near Gun Club Road and E-470.

The FBI also evacuated that entire building and an adjacent building and pushed everyone back 1,000 feet as a precautionary measure.

Two women in burkas and Zazi’s brother were taken from the apartment, put in separate cars and driven off, 7NEWS reported. The FBI did say whether the women and brother are being detained or being questioned, or removed for their safety.”

SNIPPET: “Zazi was not inside the apartment when it was raided. He is reportedly at FBI Denver headquarters being interviewed by FBI agents, a meeting set up by his attorney, Arthur Folsom.”

SNIPPET: “The task force also feared Zazi may be involved in a potential plot involving homemade hydrogen peroxide-based explosives like those cited in an intelligence warning issued Monday, said the officials, who spoke on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the investigation.”

SNIPPET: “Zazi Had Visited New York, Pakistan”
