I remember that my Dad almost died when I was 10 (40 years ago) due to a perforated bleeding ulcer. Also, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), which I have, can lead to what is known as Barrett’s esophagus, which is the result of years of the effects of stomach acid which cause inflammation, and extreme cell damage. Because of the cell damage, the cells mutate and become cancerous which leads to death in about 85% of those who get it.

My esophagus constricted one night about a year ago, I actually thought I was having a heart attack, which it mimics. They had to do an emergency balloon dilation. I am now on Nexium, which helps immensely, although I do have a tendency to choke on food occasionally, mostly ground hamburger or rice. I actually drove myself to the hospital that night...of course I got my butt chewed out by everyone for doing so ; )

Sounds like you have what I have. A bit of stomach contents rises up because the esophagus reverses or spasms, and goes down into your airway.

I have not had it since I stopped drinking fluids or large meals before bed. And alcohol makes it worse as well.

I had abdominal pains which would wake me up 3 times a night for over a year and felt it must be an ulcer. I read online that if you juice cabbage for 14 days and drink it, it will heal an ulcer. I did it for 40 days just to be sure! (I only drank about 1/3 a glass as it is not tasty. I mixed a small slice of a granny smith apple with it to make it easier to drink and I would drink it fast and then drink water directly after that.) Well, I do not have the pain anymore and I furthermore stopped having the pain 2 days after I began this treatment. So far so good and it has been 2 months now!!! From what I have read about cabbage, it even kills bad bacteria, etc.. I also had acid reflux and I went on a low carb diet and that took it away.
