BEIJING (AP) -- Beijing filed a World Trade Organization complaint Monday over new U.S. tariffs on Chinese tires, stepping up pressure on Washington in the latest in a series of trade disputes.
The conflict is a potential irritant as Washington and Beijing prepare for a summit of the Group of 20 leading economies in Pittsburgh on Sept. 24-25 to discuss efforts to end the worst global downturn since the 1930s.
The Chinese complaint to the WTO in Geneva triggers a 60-day WTO process in which the two sides are to try to resolve the dispute through negotiations. If that fails, China can request a WTO panel to investigate and rule on the case.
"China believes that the above-mentioned measure by the U.S., which runs counter to relevant WTO rules, is a wrong practice abusing trade remedies," said a Chinese government statement quoted by the official Xinhua News Agency.
The WTO confirmed that China has filed a "request for consultations" on the issue.
Beijing's unusually prompt response to Friday's tariff decision shows the urgency China attaches to maintaining exports amid slumping global demand.
President Barack Obama approved the higher duties to slow the rapid growth of U.S. imports of Chinese-made tires blamed for the loss of thousands of American jobs. Beijing criticized the move as a violation of free trade and called on other governments to oppose protectionism.
The Office of the United States Trade Representative in Washington said the U.S. had not stepped out of line.

You're dead on the money about that, IMO. They're performing like a bunch of amateurs, of course that's what the majority of them are.
Just the fact that a substantial political group is advocating this would be enough to force them to immediately cut up our credit cards.

If you’re gonna poke someone in the eye, first hand him your wallet.
China puts a tariff (tax) on pretty much everything they import that is manufactured here (in the US), thus making it hard for the US to sell goods in China, due to the "wonderful unions and green laws" here.
The United States brings (imports) A LOT of goods here from China. We do not have hardly any tariffs (taxes) on incoming goods.
China also "blocks" certain items from the US for import.
Even some US companies have moved to China and elsewhere, because of taxation, unions and green-wacko's making laws that are basically making it difficult to do business here. Towns have lost (along with the TAXES from them and the people)these much needed businesses due to making our goods more expensive as China brings the SAME GOODS over here (think WalMart-KMart and discount stores) that sell cheaper, which then:
- makes the factories and businesses slowly crash
- leaving people without jobs
- who then can't afford to buy the more expensive US made products
-which means more cheaper imports are brought in
-which makes MORE businesses close, the taxes they produced for the area (and national) gov't dry up making it harded for services (think police, fire, schools, city workers0 to be provided as those people lose thier jobs.....
...and then start at the top of that list, lather, rinse, repeat without stopping, and you will maybe see the destructive pattern that the Obamassiah MIGHT be trying to "come to our rescue" about.
O-tay....now for MY very humble opinions of why Obamassiah is doing this.
-he could be trying to help his union buddies in the US tire industry by decreasing the supply of cheaper tires(after all, Obamassiah IS in the "car business" now) making his union buddies' tires more sellable.
-this could be to signal to China that unless they reduce the incoming goods tariffs on our products, he will continue to put more tariffs on other goods until China quits putting such HIGH tariffs on ours.

O-tay....TIN FOIL TIME!! If you could control the tires sold here, eventually you would control what people drive.
By not importing or producing tires that fit those EVIL GAS GUZZILING SUV'S and those "people clinging to their guns and religion"'s PICK UP TRUCKS, eventually as tire supply for them steadilly dies, so do those vehicles. Going a step further, it decreases the ammount of REAL MOBILITY that the population will have because of tiny vehicles with tiny gas tanks and short extenion cords.
Think of some of the gun-grabbers plots that are underway with ammunition...no ammo = worthless gun.
Stop importation and production of CERTAIN SIZE TIRES = worthless vehicle that they fit on.

Remember that Al Gore not only put out the movie An Incovienent Truth...he was Clinton’s point man on passing NAFTA....the disastrous Free Trade deal that pretty much has trashed Mexico and the US. Remember that Gore supported NAFTA/Free Trade....while Ross Perot defended American Economics in that Larry King debate
The fact is that most LIBERALS who support GLOBAL WARMING also support FREE TRADE
No doubt Obama is working in concert with the Global Warmists and the Free Traders to use tariffs to implement Global Warming programs. If the price for tires are too high....fewer tires sold...fewer miles driven
Obama is a Free Trader and a Global Warmist, like most liberals. He talks tough on free trade....but he is still World First and not America First
Free Traders and Global Warmist are so tied together for the most part....they should call Obama’s plan “CAP AND FREE TRADE”
