The 70,000 figure comes, I believe, from the application for a permit that goes in six months or more in advance. It has NOTHING to do with actual attendance, and it is a public document. Any honest and competent reporter could get a copy of that and see that it is unrelated to actual attendance.
Competent? Honest? Yes, I know I've just excluded 90% of the press.
