I never walked to school. Should I feel deprived? When I look back at what I WAS allowed to do, it was pointlessly reckless. Maybe my fearless independence was formed then, though, so maybe you're right.
But given what I've seen from my own classmates, and those of my children, walking to school adds very little that can be observed.
