The dwindling number of readers of The New York Times were treated Wednesday to a column by Thomas Friedman extolling China's "one-party autocracy," which, he told us, "is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people."
China's leaders, he reported, are "boosting gasoline prices" and "overtaking us in electric cars, solar power, energy efficiency, batteries, nuclear power and wind power." All, of course, in the cause of reducing carbon emissions, which so many luminaries assure us are bound to produce global warming and environmental catastrophe.

I am grateful that the NY Times is being open about its democrat party agenda.
Why don’t lib nut-jobs like him, Oliver Stone and Michael Moore not leave the United States. They can go to socialist hell holes like Cuba, North Vietnam, and I’m sad to say, Venezuela?
This is exactly their agenda.
They don’t expect to have elections pretty soon. Thats my take.
Well, they have a party agenda, but it’s not Democrat.
They’re counting on being new Pravda after the fall...
That’s like a soldier leaving the battlefield.
They’re all awaiting U.S. bankruptcy when they plan on heading up the state-run media...
A lot of the US elite thought Fascism was pretty cool in the 20’s and 30’s. If you replace hatred of jews with hatred of the bourgeois, Italian Fascism pretty much ports over to the Obama administration intact. Obama even poses the way Moussolini did with the silly chin thing he does.
As a matter of fact, had Hitler not declared war on the Russian communists, the American left would probably still be defending the fascists and would have opposed our entering WWII bitterly. Until that declaration of war, the fascists were AOK with the American left.
Fiedman has cited China before in admiration for the way they get things done, none of the messy problems associated with working in a representative republic.
What an outright LIE! China's CO2 outputs are climbing in proportion to it's economic growth, at about 5-10% a year.
I’ll be glad when Freidman ceases to be a carbon emission.
I dont know where Mr. Friedman got his idea that Chinas leadership is worried about carbon emissions but I very much doubt that it is a fact.
If China is doing any or all of these things it is in an effort to become the pre-eminent world power that they believe it is their right and destiny to become.
Even Charles Lindberg. Yes a lot of Progressives liked Hitler and Mussolini in the 30’s.
People should remember the great, failed prophet of doom, Robert Ehrlich, who in 1969 forecast mass starvation in his book "The Population Bomb" before the end of the twentieth century. He was fastastically wrong but is still regarded in leftist circles as a great seer. That's how intelligent the left is. They can be proved utterly wrong but still declare their failed theories to be accurate.
You need to remember the state of things. We were in a Depression. The way to the future seemed to be two paths: Communism or Fascism. If you didn’t like the Communists, then Fascism seemed to be the way to go.
I’m not saying it was right, just that is what choices some folks though we had.

Two disagreements with this:
1. The left in america did not see either of these as an unpleasant choice. They were for the totalitarian solution, regardless whether there was a depression or not.
2. Actually, the left in America was good with either the communists or the national socialists. It wasn’t one or the other. Both were left wing totalitarian experiments that made the left feel all warm and fuzzy. That they liked the commies more than the fascists doesn’t mean they were agin’ the fascists. (That is, until Hitler turned on their dear old Uncle Joe Stalin. Then fascism was chopped liver so far as the US left was concerned.)
Today, it’s back with a new, hopey, changey, post-partisan, do what I say look gloss. But it’s still fascism. And Obama and his cult of personality still reminds me of Moussolini.
The Left liked Hitler because he supported Stalin. That’s only fair, ‘cause the Soviets provided help for the Germans to rearm.
They became instant anti-Fascists when Hitler attacked the Soviets. No doubt, they would have done so if the reverse were true as well.
Businessmen liked how the Fascists handled the unions other thorns in their side, ignoring how the Fascists treated them.
I didn’t say it was rational. Rationality was pretty rare during the Depression, or FDR wouldn’t have lasted so long.
