Republican Assemblyman Mike "Spanky" Duvall's decision to resign over his open-mike bragging about his sexcapades with a Sacramento lobbyist was one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen.
The minute his fellow Republican seatmate heard Duvall's comments, he should have gone to his party's leadership and told them. The leadership should then have called in Duvall, stripped him of his committee assignments and thus taken the sting out of what was bound to be an embarrassing situation.
Instead, Duvall was a sitting duck when the tape was leaked.
I know the leak didn't come from the Democratic side. For one, Assembly Speaker Karen Bass didn't even know about the tape until she got a call from the "Today" show.
If the Democrats did have the tape, they would have kept it undercover until October 2010, when Duvall was in the middle of his re-election campaign in Orange County, then released it and blown him out of the water.
Duvall's resignation means there will be no investigation into what was going on between him and the lobbyist, which means lawmakers will have a doubly tough time winning back public confidence in the Legislature.
As for why it was dumb for Duvall to resign without a fight?
Think about it. Where is he going to go? He can't go home, that's for sure. His wife will kill him.

Corrupt politicians are not honorable and never will be. This guy was banging lobbyist call girl sluts that were from companies that Duvall had control over.
Then what happens? He tells his fellow corrupt politician sitting next to him, and this AH never says a word to anyone.

I've always felt inconsistent statements and those that make little sense are rather bizarre.
As I said, there was nothing honorable about resigning here. He had no choice, and honor had nothing to do with it.
