The resignation of Washington Post general manager of events and conferences for four months, Charles Pelton, comes some 10 weeks after the plug was pulled on $25,000 dinners to include Washington Post reporters, officials from Congress, the Obama admin, and industry executives at the home of Publisher Katharine Weymouth. Pelton proposed sponsors pay $25,000 for one to $250,000 for all 11 events. Weymouth and Executive Editor Marcus Brauchli later confessed they erred by not insisting on giving Post journalists the freedom to report freely on the event. Pelton, a former journalist, didn't mention the salon imbroglio in his resignation, "Given the resources needed to launch [an events business], my family and I have decided not to relocate," from California.

Allow me to translate: “I had no idea how Washington DC works. I have no principles. I came to DC, put my foot in it, made my boss and the paper’s owners look like even bigger biased crooks than they are by publicly selling access. I am returning to California as fast as I can with my tail between my legs.”

I am sure you are right. I am sure I am wrong. There. Feel better?
We disagree on an issue. That’s an adult reality. Neither of us has to grovel or hold our breath or suck our thumbs or anything. I like things you say - often - just not this time. If would be creepy if we agreed on everything... you know - free country and all...
I beg your pardon. We don’t disagree any more. You have shouted me down. I am sure you are right. I am sure I am wrong. You win. Uncle. I give. I surrender. Please, please forgive me for being so misled as to disagree with you in any way. From now on, before I post a comment, I will run it by you to make sure that you do not object in any way, and that it does not offend your all wise, all knowing self. There. Feel better?
