AUSTRALIA risked being 'swamped' by asylum-seekers, the Federal Opposition warned, if boat arrivals continued at their current rate, with three arriving this week alone.
The interception of a third vessel in a week prompted the coalition to suggest there was a risk up to 10,000 asylum-seekers could start heading to Australia by boat each year.
The Australian Greens accused the Opposition of dog-whistle politics.
"The unfortunate thing here is the Howard government did make some capital out of dog-whistling on refugees seeking asylum in this country," Greens leader Bob Brown told reporters. "The whistle now has to get a bit shriller and louder and I think that's a bad thing."

Sad. I remember hearing a radio report (by the late, great commentator
Paul Harvey) about how John Howard was maintaing a hard line against
these would-be invaders of Australia.
Why do I remember this factoid?
I heard it about a month or so before September 11, 2001.
And it was mentioned that some of these boat people were Iraqis.
(Who knows how many covert opertives of Saddam Hussein might have
inserted themselves amongst the “innocents”, with some sort of nefarious
design...)
Too bad this Kevin Rudd fellow appears to be handing out the welcome mat
for your version of all the millions that invade the USA.

has their been a ‘liberal’ backlash in Australia as well since September 11th? I just do not understand. It seems at a time where countries should be ‘shoring’ up their boundaries, they instead are voting in idiots that fold out the welcome mat and to those that can not be trusted to carry on the culture nor the safety of the society at large. Odd.
Leftists need poor ignorant masses. Either create them with a nations institutions, like a virus uses the hosts on cells to produce more viruses, or import them.
