I was volunteering in a local hospital yesterday, and because we were short of escorts, a guy was called in off the golf course to help. I guess he’s close to 80. He had a tat on his right forearm, a bulldog with a DI’s campaign hat. We got talking, in between taking patients out to their waiting cars. He had been in Korea, and showed me some of his scars. He’d been in hand-to-hand combat twice, once with the NORKS and once with the CHICOMS. He’d been pretty badly cut up, but came out on top with both opponents. He said that the reason he won was because he and his fellow Marines kept their bayonets razor sharp. A word to the wise.
